The Knights title hopes were dashed after being plagued by foul trouble, injuries and a sizzling performance by Rhoden. “She was phenomenal,” Knights coach Mario Gaetano told the Ottawa Citizen. “She hit three three-pointers, 5-of-9 from the line and controlled the game.” With several Knights in foul trouble, Pilypaitis limited by back problems and gunner Kent hobbled by a knee injury, the defensive options were limited, Gaetano added. “We tried to do all the rights but missed along the way. Give them credit. They played really well and deserved to win.”

       In the other semi, the 4th-seeded Brantford Assumption Lions dumped the 3rd-seeded Burlington Nelson Lords 46-28 as Stephanie Smiley scored 9 and Nicole Vandermade 8. Carley Bokor led Nelson with 9. Alaina Porter added 6.

Coach Mario Gaetano was pleased with his troop’s resiliency, particularly as starters Courtnay Pilypaitis, Kent and Stephanie MacDonald were all playing through injuries. “It was a totally gutty performance,” Gaetano told the Ottawa Citizen. “Stephanie and Courtnay and Shauna weren’t 100 percent but they still gave us everything that had and I’m proud of them for that kind of effort. Bronze isn’t what we came for but these kids deserved a medal.” The Lords also included Carley Bokor, Natalie Stacey.
