       In the quarterfinals, the Ottawa Woodroffe Tigers defeated the 7th-seeded Barrie Innisdale Invaders 48-42 as Jennifer Powley scored 22 and Cindy Lacroix 12. The Invaders led 21-20 at the half. “We’re building momentum,” Woodroffe coach Barry Ager told the Ottawa Citizen. “We’re getting there. We’re not content to be 38-0. We intend to be 40-0.”

The 4th-seeded Timmins HVS Blues whipped the Burlington Central Trojans 79-52. Charlotte LaRose led the Trojans with 26.

The top-seeded Sudbury Secondary North Stars edged the 8th-seeded Hamilton Sherwood Saints 53-48 as Chantal St. Martin scored 19. Saint Michele Luke told the Hamilton Spectator that “they were giants. But we played great defence and should have won it. Their shortest girl was the same height as our tallest – 5-9 – and their talent girl was incredible. I think everyone thought we deserved to win, if only for our defensive work. Saints coach Lynne Jamiieson said “we weren’t behind by more than four all game and I think we surprised them. … We had a super effort from everyone, including Kathy Harrison and Michele, played great defence, Chris Davis rebounding on girls half a foot taller and Vicky Harrison shooting like a madman.” The Saints (coach Jamieson) also included Janine Gaunt, Kelley O’Toole, Nancy Robinson, Dragana Maric, Diana Piva, Kathy Festeryga and Kerry McDonald.

In the last quarterfinal, the 3rd-seeded Sarnia St. Patrick’s Fighting Irish stomped the 10th-seeded Kitchener Collegiate Raiders 48-39 (also reported as 48-39) as Marie Verdun scored 18, Mary Beth Wighton 11 and Sandy Hamilton 9. Fighting Irish coach Bob Delaney told the Kitchener-Waterloo Record that “I’d have to say our experience in tight game situations like tonight and the clutch shooting of Mary Beth Wighton were the determining factors.” Andrea Prescott led the Raiders with 14. Ruth Ann Klassen added 12, Cathy Weylie 7 and Ann Weber 4. The Raiders (coach Brian Barras) also included Deb Henderson, Jennifer Leeson Raiders coach Brian Barras said that “we were in it as late as the last 40 seconds but some unforced errors and breaks that went against us were the difference.” The Raiders were forced into the free throw game after trailing 42-39 with 41 seconds to play. Barras said that “when Ann (Weber) hurt her ankle in the second quarter and didn’t come back to play until early in the last quarter, it has to make a difference how our offence runs. Even though we were able to hold our own when Ann was on the bench, we’re simply not as strong offensively and defensively when she’s not on the floor.”

       In the semis, the top-seeded Sudbury Secondary North Stars defeated the 4th-seeded Timmins HVS Blues x-x.

       In the other semi, the 2nd-seeded Woodroffe Tigers dispatched 3rd-seeded Sarnia St. Patrick’s Fighting Irish 40-38 as Jennifer Powley scored 20. The Tigers trailed by nine after three quarters. “We went into a zone defence and outpressed them,” Tigers coach Barry Ager told the Ottawa Citizen. Janet Swords stole the ball for a runout winning layup. Ager said “I was watching the referee to see if he was going to raise his hand that the shot hadn’t been taken before the buzzer sounded. It was that close.”

       In the bronze medal match, the 3rd-seeded Sarnia St. Patrick’s Fighting Irish clipped the 4th-seeded Timmins HVS Blues 38-26.

       In the final, the 2nd-seeded Ottawa Woodroffe Tigers edged the top-seeded Sudbury Secondary North Stars 50-48 in double overtime as Jennifer Powley scored 28, Janet Swords 16, Carolyn Swords 8 and Cindy Lacroix 6. The Tigers held the ball for all of the first overtime and missed a shot at the buzzer. They did the same in the second overtime and Jennifer Powley drilled a 18-foot jumper at the buzzer to win it. Tigers coach Barry Ager told the Ottawa Citizen that “it was a long time watching that 18-foot set shot. … After that … well, then there were some tears of happiness, of course.” The Tigers finished (40-0) on the season.
