       The Hamilton Bishop Ryan Celtics defeated Burlington M.M. Robinson Rams 64-39 as Sharon Knowles scored 28 and Carolyn Oliver 14. Anthea Hewitt led the Rams with 16.

       The Midland Marauders edged the Welland Notre Dame Fighting Irish 56-43 as Carolyn Leech scored 17. The Fighting Irish included Francis MacDonald, Joanne Cahill.

       In the last quarterfinal, the Sudbury Secondary North Stars dumped the Kingsville District Cavaliers 53-35 after leading 31-9 at the half. Mary Ann Kowal paced the North Stars with 14. Cavaliers coach Dennis Ducharme told the Windsor Star that “nothing went wrong in the first half. They’re just a good solid basketball team. They went to the bench a bit in the second half but we didn’t quit. We kept going right at them.” The Cavaliers (coached by Dennis Ducharme, manager Rita Colasanti) included Kelly Lethbridge, Cathy Gerber, Donna Sorrell, Deb Kos, Kip Millitz, Angela Pearce, Julie Tiborcz, Janice Tiborcz, Maria Braga, Leah Jackiw, Darlene Kos, Sandi Wigle and Kip Millitz.

       In the semis, the Hamilton Bishop Ryan Celtics upset the two-time defending champ Sudbury Secondary North Stars 44-43.

       In the other semi, the Sarnia St. Patrick’s Fighting Irish dumped the Midland Marauders 44-32 as Sue Forsythe scored 28.

       In the final, the top-ranked Sarnia St. Patrick’s Fighting Irish edged the 3rd-seeded Hamilton Bishop Ryan Celtics 46-45 as Sue Forsyth scored 20, including the winning bucket with under a minute to play. “With Bishop Ryan in the final, I had a gut feeling we were going to have a tough time,” said St. Patrick’s coach Bob Delaney. “They have a fantastic ball team but our key was to control them offensively and as it turned out, we did just that.” Celtic Sharon Knowles missed two free throws with 6 seconds to play and Liz Grant bounced one off the rim at the buzzer. Sharon Knowles paced the Celtics with 14. Celtics coach Joe DiTrapani told the Hamilton Spectator that “if we were beaten badly, we might have said that we were happy to have gone as far as the final. But now, we’ll have to life with the thought that if one of those three shots had gone in, we would have won the gold. … (The semi) was a tough game and I’m very proud of the girls. I know some people didn’t think they had anything left after beating Sudbury. Lucy (Grosman), Liz and Joanne Howatt really gave us a lift to make it close.”
