In the last quarterfinal, the Ottawa Merivale Marauders clubbed Belleville Bayside 61-39 as Laura Gillespie scored 28, Kathy Davis 14 and Val Cody 11. Bayside included Lynn Richards. “Our scoring was spread around,” Marauders coach Charlotte MacKay told the Ottawa Journal. “Everyone played. It was a team effort.”
In the semis, the Ancaster Royals dispatched the Ottawa Merivale Marauders 56-47 as Candy Clarkson scored 21 and Sue Lindley 17. Laura Gillespie led the Marauders with 17. Kathy Davis added 10 and Cathy McEachern 10. “That was the best team we’ve ever played,” Marauders coach Charlotte MacKay told the Ottawa Journal.
In the other semi, the Guelph John F. Ross Royals edged the Burlington Lord Elgin Lancers 55-53.
In the final, the Ancaster Royals defeated the Guelph John F. Ross Royals 55-40 as Candy Clarkson scored 27 and Sue Lindley 21. The Royals led 14-8, 31-20 and 47-24 at the quarters. Royals coach Ernie Rodway told the Hamilton Spectator that “we had a very strong team going to the championships. Of course, there’s always a question but once we got past the first game, the rest were easier.” Ancaster finished (37-1) on the season. “I’m glad they didn’t pick an all-star team because it would be awfully difficult to leave either girl (Clarkson or Lindley) off it,” Royals coach Ernie Rodway told the Ottawa Journal.
