We had four one-and-one situations and hit on three for six points and at the finish, we certainly had the edge on them. We had some key rebounding in the fourth quarter and they had to easy off when they got in foul trouble.” Centennial coach Paul Valentine said “foul trouble got to us. Chase got in foul trouble and Jeff (Ramin) hurt his ankle. And we got rattled near the end. We took two bad fouls when we could have stepped back but went out to get them. And we threw the ball away twice in the last minute.” Daly told the Hamilton Spectator that “at last, we won a big one … (In the first half), the shots just weren’t there. We knew that if we could take this one, we would go on. It wasn’t tough getting the boys up for the game.” Noel Hickey paced the Gaels with 17. Ed Mandula added 10. The Cougars (Ken Ormerod) also included Mike Zaokipnyj, Tim Harriott, Pete Goodwin, John Prock.        In the other semi, the Kitchener Forest Heights Trojans defeated the 3rd-seeded Tillsonburg Glendale Griffins 54-49 as Mike Moser scored 18, Seig Leidig 16, Phil Schlote 10, Jeff Scott 7 and Dave Shelton 6. Trojans coach Don MacCrae told the Kitchner-Waterloo Record that his troops stalled effectively down the stretch. “That’s hard for high school kids to do. They did it really well. Forest Heights rallied to a six-point lead in the third quarter when star center Mike Moser fouled out, after having spent most of the second and third quarter on the bench in foul trouble. Kitchener was ahead by one at the three-quarter mark when the Lords stormed back. The Trojans played without starting guard Bill Ferguson, who sprained his right ankle in the semis. Schlote picked up his third foul early in the second quarter. A frustrated Kitchener coach Don McCrae told Canadian Press that “I wish they had clobbered us. We had the chances and missed them. The game was won by us when we were six points up. We turned the ball over and then the fouls did it.” And elated Lords coach John McLennan called it “a whale of a game. They were a lot tougher than we played them at Christmas. Phil Schlote was the key to their game and we were looking for him to foul out, which he did, but he also scored and we were not expecting that kind of game from him.” Nelson entered the draw with a (31-3) record. MacCrae told the Kitchener-Waterloo Record that Shelton never played more than three or four minutes a game all year. “He was superb. … Our front court men didn’t play very well at the start of the game. We turned the ball over too many times. We worked as a team to get the ball and then we turned it over. We made that press work so long, it was almost ridiculous. Then we turned the ball over.” McLennan said Mike Bruno contained Leidig effectively. “When that guy was hurt this morning, we told Bruno he had a chance against Seig Leidig.” After the campaign, Moser enrolled at Brown University, saying “Brown has a free curriculum though. You can choose whatever subjects you want. Colgate has course requirements.”
