Sean Chung added 16. “Will was unstoppable in this game,” despite playing on a sprained ankle, Crusaders coach Tim Coates told the Belleville Intelligencer. “We were trailing by three when Sean tied it with a three-pointer with about 20 seconds remaining.” Rivers hit “a difficult 10-foot shot” to win it, Coates added. “Will was the best player in the tournament. In the final, the 3rd-seeded Almonte District Orangemen edged the 11th-seeded Ottawa Notre Dame Silver Eagles 68-65 after leading 19-15, 35-29 and 48-44 at the quarters. But the Orangemen trailed by 12 with three minutes to play before rallying in what co-coach Dan Hickey told CBC News was one of the “best comebacks in OFSAA history.” Micah Della Foresta paced the Orangemen with 31. H Bordreddine led the Silver Eagles with 21. “Last night was very emotional,” Orange coach Dan Hickey told the Millstone News. “It’s all still sinking in. It was a pretty amazing win considering we were down by 12 with just three minutes to go but the boys never gave up. They showed a lot of character – but that’s our team this year. We never give up.” Orangemen co-coach Kevin Hickey was also on the 1987 team that last won a title for Almonte, said he was proud to watch the hard work put in by his son, Liam, and the rest of the players finally pay off. “We’re a basketball family, and in our eyes it’s almost expected that we have good basketball in Almonte,” he told CBC News. “It’s a respect thing for Dr. James Naismith from our standpoint, so that’s what we strive for.” Dan Hickey said TThe whole town of Almonte was watching, and right now we’re kind of like stars,” he said. “Everybody is still on cloud nine. [It] still hasn’t sunk in.”
