In the semis, the top-seeded Timmins O’Gorman Knights crushed the 4th-seeded Rockcliffe Ashbury Colts 54-35 after leading 22-9, 32-19 and 43-29 at the quarters. “We jumped out pretty early,” Knights coach Don Davis told the Timmins Daily Press. “We had a game plan in place and we stuck to it. They have a phenomenal Grade 10 player (Noah Kirkwood) on their team. He has been scoring 30 or 35 points throughout the tournament, so we really honed in on him and tried to keep him out of the paint. He is unbelievable. He is one of the best players I have seen at the high school level.” But Ryan Basso and Matt D’Alessandri essentially neutralized Kirkwood. “It was a whole team defensive system, where we weren’t going to let him beat us,” Davis said. “We were going to see if his teammates would be able to beat us and they weren’t up to the task. The help was coming early. He was going up against two of our defenders, or three of our defenders. We made him pass it out to his teammates. We didn’t want to give him any open looks. … They are well coached and we knew they were going to battle back and that we weren’t just going to walk away with the win. We just wanted to rebound the ball and take care of the ball, making sure not to turn it over. We play a really sound team game and they were really pressuring our ball handler, so we were able to just move the ball around and get wide-open shots. Luckily for us, we knocked them down.” Ryan Basso paced the Knights with 17. Noah Kirkwood led the Colts with 16.

In the other semi, 2nd-seeded St. Catharines Ridley Tigers mauled the 6th-seeded Oakville King’s Christian Cavaliers 65-33 after leading 17-5, 33-16 and 46-19 at the quarters. Shamar Burrows led the Tigers with 21. Jaiman Dhindsa paced the Cavaliers with 13.

In the bronze medal match, the 4th-seeded Rockcliffe Ashbury Colts steamrolled the 6th-seeded Oakville King’s Christian Cavaliers 84-56. The Cavaliers led 21-18 after one quarter. The Colts led 40-32 at the half and 60-46 after three quarters. Owen Boisvert paced the Colts with 26. Carter Smith led the Cavaliers with 18. The Cavaliers (coached by Eric Bulthuis) also included Sahil Aulakh, Jaiman Dhindsa, Arjug Duggal, Jayden Grewal, Jeremy Groot, Kosta Karolidis, Jeff McRae, Michael Nnaji, Lotanna Obi, Joel Presse, Phillip Ragsdale and Ethan Urbankeiwicz.

In the final, the 2nd-seeded St. Catharines Ridley Tigers dispatched the top-seeded Timmins O’Gorman Knights 57-46. The Knights led 12-10 after one quarter. The Tigers led 28-21 at the half and 42-33 after three quarters. Shamar Burrows paced the Tigers with 18. Ryan Basso led the Knights with 16. “I think we were up 12-2 at one point in the first quarter,” said Knights coach Don Davis told the Timmins Daily Press. “We came out and Nathan Hookimaw hit a couple of big threes and we built up quite a good lead and we held onto it for the majority of the first quarter. We had a bunch of mental letdowns in the second quarter and it ended up costing us the game. They were extremely physical with us and the referees let the boys play, so that took us out of our normal flow of the game. … We wanted to keep them off the boards, but we made mental errors and allowed them to do exactly what they wanted to do to us.” Davis added that post Colton Labine had a solid game. “He did not score many points, but defensively, rebounding and communicating, he did all of those things well. … We play against a lot of private schools in these championships and they get kids from all over the place. I think we are two very different teams, but depending on what kind of night you catch either team on, it could go either way. We got exactly what we wanted offensively tonight but it just seemed like there was a lid on the basket. The ball wouldn’t fall for us, whether it was layups, or pull up jump shots, open threes. It just wasn’t meant to be, I guess. … “We are already thinking about next year and thinking about getting bigger, stronger and faster. The Tigers bigger and stronger players definitely hurt us today, so we will be looking to equalize that over the summer months. We hope that our players spend their off season in the gym getting stronger.” Davis added that the Knights semifinal victory took a lot out of the Knights. “We had to lay it on the line this morning. If we played this game (Wednesday’s final) again tomorrow night it could be a totally different outcome. If our shots were falling, like they usually do, we could win by 10 or 15 points.” Tigers coach Dave Whitty told the St. Catharines Standard that “we could play eight deep with virtually no apparent change on the court. We also had three point guards if needed so pressing us wasn’t really an option and by year’s end, our fast break was special.” Ridley finished 40-8 on the campaign.
