Northern Braves 52-48 after leading 52-48 at the half. Max Hirst drained both his foul shots with 0.4 seconds remaining to ice the Predators win. The Braves trailed by as many as 11 points in the fourth quarter, but key baskets by Mitch Brouillette, Tyler Cameron and Jean Charbonneau helped them creep to within two points in the dying seconds. “I’m proud of the guys,” said Braves coach Ian Lawson. “We were down at the half and down after three quarters, but they never quit. They kept focused and kept executing. We came up a little short at the end — with a bit more time, I like to think we would have won it. They guys can keep their heads high.” Braves captain Tyler Cameron said “they just executed better. They made a lot more of their layups than we did. If we would have made all our layups, we could have won the game by at least 10. We’re pretty proud that we fought really hard. The coach said it was one of our best games of the year, so we’re proud. It’s really good having the home crowd. Everybody was looking forward to this — we knew about this last year, so we’ve been pumped all year for it.” Hirst led Pretty River with 19 points, while Sam Hirst netted 17. Cameron had 14 for the Braves, while Jean Charbonneau added 13 and Mitch Brouillette 6, including the basket with three seconds left that cut the lead to two. “I think we gave them a pretty good game,” said Brouillette, noting that “it was a lot of fun” to play an OFSAA game at home having watched a Northern team host the championship in 2006, when he was in Grade 8. “We all think we could have won. Algonquin beat this team and we were really close with Algonquin this season, so we thought we’d have a really good chance.” …………………………………………………… The 2nd-seeded St. Catharines Ridley College Tigers whipped the 12th-seeded Thorold Secondary Golden Eagles 74-35.
