Borden Falcons dumped the Welland Westbrook Warriors 73-32 as Gerry Morris scored 26, along with 10 boards, Mike Kavanaugh 17, along with 16 boards, Swaby 10, Chapman 8, McCallum 6, Scott Cameron 4 and Skrilec 2. Peichat led the Warriors with 7. Crowe added 6, Jones 6, Jenik 5, Boutin 4, Crowe 2 and Bentley 2.
The Toronto Parkview Panthers bombed the Windsor William Hands Huskies 45-19 as O’Neil Bryan scored 12, Steve Georgoussis 9, Kamal Abunassar 6, Gerry McGraw 6, Bozinovski 6 and Xynis 4, while Vanderbrook was scoreless. Marchand led the Huskies with 4. Menard added 4, Wods 3, Frenette 2, Woodman 2, Orr 2 and Leon 2.
The Oshawa General Vanier (now Oshawa Collegiate) Chiefs clipped the Thunder Bay Northwood (now Dennis Franklin Cromarty First Nations High) 38-25 as Wally Steenstra scored 20, Norton 8, McCarthy 6, Young 2 and Grey 2. Greg Trapp led Northwood with 15. Glaeser added 4, Williams 3 and Ginter 3, while McKenzie was scoreless.
In the last quarterfinal, the Windsor Shawnee Dukes bombed Oakville General Wolfe (now White Oaks Secondary) Wildcats 54-26 as Mike Gelucia scored 10, Lino Braccio 9, Mike Kassian 8, Renaud 7, Larry Girard 6, Fred Bahna 6, Laprise 6 and Haskett 2. Wilkinson led the Wildcats with 8. Michie added 8, Laplante 7 and Den Parkin 3, while Dan Parkin was scoreless. Wildcat star Ed Robinson tore a knee ligament in his right leg during warmups. Dukes coach Dave Robinson told the Windsor Star “we got away from them in the first quarter with some really good defence.” Dukes assistant Don McPherson said “throughout the game, our traps in the corner were working well and for a change, we got really balanced scoring.”
In the semis, the Scarborough Robert L. Borden Falcons defeated the Toronto Parkview Panthers 58-50 as Gerry Morris scored 20, Mike Kavanagh 19, Swaby 9, Cameron 8 and McCallum 2. O’Neil Bryan led the Panthers with 24. Steve Georgoussis added 10, Bozinovski 8, Kamal Abunassar 4 and Gerry McGraw 4.
In the other semi, the Windsor Shawnee Dukes dusted the Oshawa General Vanier Chiefs 66-46 as Mike Kassian scored 31, Lino Braccio 9, Larry Girard 8, Haskett 4, Mike Gelucia 4, Robinet 4 and Goodfellow 2. Wally Steenstra led the Chiefs with 27. Norton added 12, Grey 3, Young 2 and McCarthy 2.
In the final, the Scarborough Robert L. Borden Falcons defeated the Windsor Shawnee Dukes 58-55 as Mike Kavanaugh scored 20, Gerry Morris 17, Scott Cameron 10, McCallum 6 and Swaby 6. Mike Kassian led the Dukes with 20, along with 10 boards. Fred Bahna added 14, Larry Girard 7, Mike Gelucia 4, along with 12 boards, Lino Braccio 4, Haskett 4 and Laprise 2. The Falcons led 28-23 at the half. Falcons coach Fred Heese told the Windsor Star that “in reality, we were consolation champs two years in a row. Last year as the first official year of the tournament but two years ago, they held an unofficial one. We were consolation winners in that too.” Dukes coach Dave Robinson said “that was probably the best game we’ve played all year. One more big man inside and we could have done it. … Braccio got in foul trouble early. I wasn’t able to play him at all in the third quarter.”
