La Salle had four players finish with four fouls apiece while Burlington’s 6-5 post Xandra Yantzi was held to eight points and fouled out. “We played her straight up. We did a very good job on her. She picked up three fouls in the first half so they had to sit her for some time,” Reynolds said. The teams combined for 40 fouls and both teams were in bonus shooting position in the first half. “They are calling things very tight. Basically, any contact and it’s a foul. We’re not used to that. It’s totally different than [in the Kingston area],” Reynolds said. La Salle built up a 28-18 lead at the half before Burlington made a third-quarter run, getting the deficit down to 35-29 at one point before LaSalle pulled away. “All the girls played really well, especially on defence. We out-rebounded them, even though they had the height advantage on us,” Reynolds said. Burlington tried to employ a press in the first half but the Knights broke it. Gaudet was able to drive from off the wing, taking on two or three players at a time and scored 10 points on layups. “She played a great game,” Reynolds said. It wasn’t our style of game,” said Rebelles coach Andre Desjardins, adding that his young troops, which feature a raft of grade 9 and 10 players, also suffered a bit of stage fright. “But they’ll learn from this. They are 92-1 over the last five seasons and haven’t lost to another AA school in more than 100 games. Silvaggio said that among the factors contributing to the run was a good local club program. “They start in Grade 5 and our senior girls are like idols to these younger girls. Their goal is to make the Amherst senior girls’ team. That’s the only thing they want. It sort of develops into a cult and that’s a good thing for us.”
