Karen Bremner led Macdonell with 14. “We outscored them 26-2 in the third quarter,” General coach Dom Silvaggio told the Windsor Star. “Defensively, we did a good job of shutting down a lot of teams.”
In the other semi, the 2nd-seeded Sault Ste. Marie St. Mary’s Knights edged the 6th-seeded Aylmer East Elgin Eagles 31-30 as Brittany Denneny scored 13, Kathleen Thorburn 10 and Vanessa Chambrione 6. Denneny hit the winning layup on a lob from Thorburn with 38 seconds to play, while giving the Knights their first lead. Knights coach Dave Zagordo told the Sault Star “we were cold. In the final, the top-seeded Amherstburg General Amherst Generals defeated the 2nd-seeded Sault Ste. Marie St. Mary’s Knights 45-41 as Lindsey MacDonald scored 15 and Kristy Chute 13. Kathleen Thorburn paced the Knights with 13. “We didn’t play our best game but they didn’t get rattled,” Amherst coach Dom Silvaggio told the Windsor Star. “They chipped away and made the plays down the stretch. … Our team was so unselfish. They shared the basketball and they got the ball to the player with the hot hand.” The Knights led 17-10 after one quarter. The Generals led 24-23 at the half. The Knights led 30-29 after three quarters. Knights coach Dave Zagordo told the Sault Star that “the girls can say they left everything on the floor.” Knight Brittany Denneny said “of course losing isn’t the best feeling in the world. But I know we played hard and tried our best. We didn’t give up.”
