The 2nd-seeded Owen Sound West Hill Raiders defeated the unseeded Kingsville District Cavaliers 51-50 as Katie Havekes scored 17 and Tara Fleming 13. Lindsay Malott paced the Cavaliers with 23. Lauren Hungler added 11. The Cavaliers led 34-26 at the half. The score was knotted at 37 after three quarters. The 3rd-seeded Tilsonburg Glendale Griffins defeated the 6th-seeded Rockcliffe Ashbury Colts 54-44. Kate Poulin scored 17 for Ashbury and Caitlin Sparks 14 for the Colts. The Colts (coached by Andy Sparks, assisted by Ian Mackinnon) also included Paula Rompkey, Danielle Simpson, Emma Plaskacz, J.J Wilson, Alanna Street, Sheila Street, Fatima Merali, Audrey Plaskacz, Sarah Frood and Laura Argument.
In the semis, the 4th-seeded Port Colborne Lakeshore Catholic Gators stunned the top-seeded Chatham John McGregor Panthers 64-62 in triple overtime. Lakeshore forced overtime with a last second shot from halfcourt. Jessica Nieuwland paced the Gators with 26. Melanie Numsen added 10. Nieuwland told the St. Catharines Standard that it was “one of the greatest games I’ve ever been involved in. Everyone asked if we were tired playing it, but we were tired after. When we were playing, we didn’t even feel it.” Nicole Green led the Panthers with 20.
In the other semi, the Tillsonburg Glendale Griffins defeated the Owen Sound West Hill Raiders 56-43 as Rebecca Henry scored 13. Brilynn Ferguson led the Raiders with 13. Raiders coach Lorne Johnson told the Owen Sound Sun Times that “they deserved to beat us. They got us down in a hole early and we didn’t handle the pressure very well. We just couldn’t get back. … our inexperience showed a little bit.
In the bronze medal match, the top-seeded Chatham John McGregor Panthers edged the Owen Sound West Hill Raiders 38-36 as Sondra Urquhart scored 9. Tara Fleming led the Raiders with 17. The Raiders (coached by Lorne Johnson) also included Brilynn Ferguson, Megan Hay, Christie Thomson, Becky Henry, Brittany Gardhouse Katie Havekes, Christy Peterson, Leslie McIntyre, Mary McRae.
In the final, Port Colborne Lakeshore Catholic Gators defeated the Tillsonburg Glendale Griffins 51-48 in overtime. Lakeshore let the clock run down with 2:40 to play but lost ball with 30 seconds to go and Glendale missed chance to win it. In overtime, grade 11 students Katie Nevar and Stephanie Yallin led Lakeshore to a seven-point lead. Glendale rallied back to within 49-46 with 20.2 seconds to go. A Glendale shot was blocked with 13 seconds to play and Nevar recovered it. She was fouled and coolly hit both free throws to ice it. Yallin paced the Gators with 11. Jessica Nieuwland added 9. Nieuwland told the St. Catharines Standard that “it a really good way for me to end. This was my last year. What a way to go.” Katie Black led the Griffins with 21.
