The 7th-seeded Windsor John L. Forster Spartans dumped the 2nd-seeded Fonthill E.L. Crossley Cyclones 58-50 after rallying from a 40-35 deficit at the half. “Heidi Allen’s outstanding defensive play in the last quarter was the key to victory,” Forster coach Tom Halliwill told the Windsor Star. “That set the tone and Tara Elliott picked it up offensively, scoring her game-total mine points in that period. The kids just went nuts when we attacked on defence and forced them into a number of turnovers. It also helped immensely that we scored 8-10 from the line in the final quarter.” Crossley led 29-23 at the half. Melinda Pierce led Forster with 22. Shannon Walker added 9. Katya Masun paced the Cyclones with 24. Jennifer Youngblut added 10. Cyclones assistant Brian Walker told the St. Catharines Standard that “it’s never disappointing when the kids give 100% but it’s tough when you know the team was better than last year. We picked the wrong time to lose our fifth game of the year.” The Cyclones (coach Steve Holmand, assistant Brian Walker) also included Sheri Durst, Stephanie Repair, Julie White, Jackie White.

In the last quarterfinal, the Chatham John McGregor Panthers crushed the Timmins HVS Blues 57-37.

In the final, the Chatham John McGregor Panthers defeated the 7th-seeded Windsor John L. Forster Spartans 62-57. “They led most of the way, but it was close the whole time,” Forster coach Tom Halliwill told the Windsor Star. “At one point in the fourth quarter, we closed to within two, but they made a couple of free throws and away they went.” The Panther led 18-15, 35-29 and 51-38 at the quarters. “They were unconscious in the first half,” Halliwill said. “We outscored them by eight in the final quarter. We kept coming back at them, we just couldn’t come back all the way. We just ran out of time, actually.” Melinda Pierce led the Spartans with 19. Shannon Walker added 15 and Tara Elliot 8. “We had a shot,” Halliwill said. “We lost a chance at five points in the span of six seconds in the third quarter. We made a layup and got fouled, but they didn’t count the basket and we got the ball out of bounds. We put the ball inbounds and Pierce hit a basket, but they called a foul and ruled it was before her shot. Those five points would have tied the game at that point. Still, I think they deserved to win.” Michelle Dehann paced the Panthers with 21.
