In the quarterfinals, the Guelph Bishop MacDonnell Celtics, with an enrolment of 550, defeated the Sarnia St. Patrick’s Fighting Irish 71-63 as Marty Dillon scored 20, Mike Sharpe 16, Wayne Dillon 10, Naterelli 9, McDermott 7, Paul Valeriotte 4, Pete Valeriotte 4 and Tessaro 1. John Vargara led the Fighting Irish with 26. Dave Brown added 8, P Brown 8, T Butler 7, Luigi Cicchini 4, Lepore 4, Mundy 2, Pitts 2 and McHenry 2, while Gelinas was scoreless.

The Ernestown Eagles dusted the Whitby Henry Street Hawks 65-41 as Sean Pritchard scored 21, Jim Finn 10, Tom McKay 10, Ron Heidebrecht 8, Topping 6, McKinnon 5, Solc 4 and Stover 1. In the last quarterfinal, the Stayner Spartans dumped the Chatham Tecumseh Braves 57-45 after lead 28-16 at the half. Jeff Smith led the Spartans with 26. Laycock added 9, Hewitt 6, Buie 6, Kenny 5 and Broadhurst 5. Dave Driscoll paced the Braves with 19. Jonathan Bennett added 11, Brian Beattie 7, Terry 6 and Grant 2, while Andrye, Stang and Clark were scoreless.

       In the semis, the Guelph Bishop MacDonnell Celtics defeated the Hamilton Sir Allan McNabb Lions 69-64 as Marty Dillon scored 16, Mike Sharpe 15, Pete Valeriotte 11, Materelli 9, Wayne Dillon 7, Paul Valeriotte 6 and Tessaro 5. The Celtics led 34-30 at the half. Dave Roser paced the Lions with 27. Steve Miazaga added 19, Russon 7, Rogers 6 and Zavitz 5.

       In the other semi, the Ernestown Eagles defeated the Stayner Collegiate Spartans 65-49 as Sean Pritchard scored 24, Ron Heidebrecht 17, Stover 8, Tom MacKay 8 and Jim Finn 8. Jeff Smith paced the Spartans with 29. Hewitt added 7, Laycock 6, Buie 2, Kenny 2, Broadhurst 2 and Church 1.

       In the final, the Guelph Bishop MacDonell Celtics defeated the Ernestown Eagles 70-39. Ernestown opened with a 3-0 lead before Bishop McDonnell responded with a 20-0 run and assumed total control of the contest. Mickey Sharpe led Guelph with 23. Marty Dillon added 17, Wayne Dillon 7, Naterelli 4, Paul Valeriotte 3, McDermott 3, McClelland 3 and Tessar 1. Sean Pritchard paced the Eagles with 14. Ron Heidebrecht added 8, Tom McKay 6, Jim Finn 5, Stover 2, McKinnon 2 and Solc 2. Bishop MacDonnell coach John Lovelock told the Windsor Star that “I believe we won the tourney with great depth. I was able to substitute freely without losing quality. … They tried to substitute with us but got hurt doing it. I think they are pretty well even with us if you count only the top five players on each team.” MacDonnell finished (22-8) on the season. Eagles coach Tom Frood told the Kingston Whig-Standard that “I used our entire bench but nothing seemed to work. We were missing shots from right underneath the basket.”
