In the opening round of the 8th annual, nine-team invitational tournament, the host Toronto St. Michael’s Blue Raiders doubled up the Guelph Notre Dame Fighting Irish 54-27 as Paul Dignan scored 13. The Fighting Irish also included Dave Lang.
In the quarterfinals, the Toronto St. Michael’s Blue Raiders clipped the St. Thomas St. Joseph’s Rams 57-44 as Paul Dunion scored 17. Bob Gibson paced St. Joseph’s with 13.
Sudbury St. Charles dumped the London Catholic Central Crusaders 51-31 after rallying from a 21-20 halftime deficit. Ron Horeck paced St. Charles with 19. Peter Howard led Catholic Central with 11.
The Kitchener St. Jerome’s Lions edged the Welland Notre Dame Fighting Irish 50-45 as Ted Czach and Terry Bailey each scored 14. Hal Geisenhoff paced Notre Dame with 15. Steve Geiger added 13 and Ed Mulligan 12.
In the last quarterfinal, the Hamilton Cathedral Gaels defeated the Toronto De La Salle Oaklands x-x.
In the semis, the Toronto St. Michael Blue Raiders defeated the Kitchener St. Jerome’s Lions 50-32.
In the other semi, the Hamilton Cathedral Gaels defeated the Sudbury St. Charles Cardinals x-x.
In the final, the Toronto St. Michael’s Blue Raiders dumped the Hamilton Cathedral Gaels 61-46. St. Michael’s led 24-20 at the half. Jim Bruce paced St. Michael’s with 29. Herb Hughes led Cathedral with 14. Jim Bruce was chosen tourney MVP.
