In the quarterfinals, the London Catholic Central Crusaders whipped the Hamilton Cathedral Gaels 32-28 as John Mellon scored 16. The Gaels (coach Larry Sullivan) included Red McKeon, Ed Cummins, Jerry Selinger, Whitey Ward, Woods, King, Tom Gallagher, Bob Bell and George Mellon.
In the other quarterfinal, the Peterborough St. Peter’s Saints edged the Toronto De La Salle Oaklands 38-35.
In the semis, the Toronto St. Michael’s Blue Raiders dumped Windsor Corpus Christi 40-30.
In the other semi, the London Catholic Central Crusaders stomped the Peterborough St. Peter’s Saints 64-42 as John Howard scored 18 and John Mellon 16.
In the final, the Toronto St. Michael’s Blue Raiders captured their third straight title and the London Catholic Central Crusaders their third straight silver as St. Michael’s rallied in the final quarter for a 45-40 victory. St. Michael’s trailed 11-5 after one quarter, 25-17 at the half and 32-25 after three quarters. But they exploded for a 20-8 run in the final frame to take the crown. Dick Barch led St. Michael’s with 14. Barry Callaghan added 12, Phil Waters 10 and Ed Lynch 9, while Ted Killingsworth held London’s high scorer, John Mellon, without a point. St. Michael’s only played five. John Howard led London with 21, including 16 in the first half. John Jarrell added 9, J. McConagle 5, R Rienapple 3 and B Bolton 2.
