In the quarterfinals, held in Dominion, the 5th-seeded host Dominion Macdonald Eagles dispatched the 4th-seeded Musquodoboit Rural Mustangs 73-55 as Shannon MacDonald scored 20, Paula Simpson 16, Arlenne MacIntyre 16 and Ashley O’Day 12. Jillian Isenor led the Mustangs with 27. The Eagles led 42-32 at the half.
The top-seeded New Germany Saints stomped the 8th-seeded Halifax Grammar Gryphons 92-67 as Erin Zinck scored 19. Lindsay Gallivan led the Gryphons with 23. The Gryphons also included Alexis Michael, Rachel Potter.
The 6th-seeded Bridgewater Park View Education Centre Panthers 68-66 stunned the 3rd-seeded Westville Mavericks 61-51 as Gillian Rafuse scored 25. Jenna MacPhee led the Mavericks with 20. The Mavericks also included Amanda Hawks.
In the last quarterfinal, the 2nd-seeded Springhill Golden Eagles edged the 7th-seeded Digby Regional Mariners 68-64 as Megan Martin scored 20. Erin Balser led the Mariners with 14. The Mariners also included Amanda Thibault, Amanda Hawks.
In the semis, the 5th-seeded Dominion Macdonald Eagles stunned the top-seeded New Germany Saints 49-48 as Paula Sampson scored 29 and Arlene MacIntyre 11. “We went in there with no expectation and we never would have thought we would have won that one,” Eagles coach Dennis Hodder to the Cape Breton Post. “The place was packed crazy for a small school like ours. It was just fantastic and all the teams appreciated how wonderful the hospitality was.” Melissa Joudrey and Alicia Fancey each notched 12 for the Saints.
In the other semi, the 6th-seeded Bridgewater Park View Education Centre Panthers clocked the 2nd-seeded Springhill Golden Eagles 72-48 as Gillian Rafuse scored 22 and Katie Jourdrey 20. Ashley Martin led the Golden Eagles with 13. Megan McLeod added 12.
In the bronze medal match, the 2nd-seeded Springhill Golden Eagles clipped the top-seeded New Germany Saints 72-66 as Megan Martin and Megan McLeod each scored 18. Lyndsie Strathearn added 15. The Eagles led 39-29 at the half. Heidi Hiltz and Gillian Rafuse each notched 16 to pace the Panthers. Katie Joudrey added 14 and Shelagh Abriel 13. “It was wonderful. The crowd, the community, and the support of the whole place was terrific. The game was fantastic,” Eagles coach Dennis Hodder told the Cape Breton Post. “Park View has a real nice young team and we just managed to pull it out in the end.”
