In the quarterfinals, held in Cambridge, the 2nd-seeded host Cambridge Berwick Central Kings Rural Gators thumped the 7th-seeded Amherst Regional Vikings 81-69. The Gators drilled nine treys. Dustin Poirier led Kings with 20. James Nunn added 18, Jeremy Shepherd 14 and Matt Nunn 11. Dwayne Ripley paced the Vikings with 27. Richard Hope added 26, Sammy Mohammad 10, Kevin LePage 3, Nick Smith 3 and Dylan Rushton 1. “I was extremely proud of the boys and how they played with intensity and emotion during the game,” Vikings’ coach Reg Caulfield told the Amherst Daily News. “Our inability to make decisions at a faster pace was our downfall, resulting in 23 turnovers.”

        The top-seeded New Waterford Breton Education Centre Bears defeated 8th-seeded Dartmouth Ecole Carrefour du Grand-Havre Leopards x-x.

        The 3rd-seeded Bridgewater Vikings defeated 6th-seeded Eastern Shore Schooners 89-74 as Dylan Tufford scored 24. Cody Brown led the Schooners with 29. Devon Mills added 16.

        In the last quarterfinal, the 4th-seeded Millwood Regional Knights defeated the 5th-seeded Canning Northeast Kings EC Titans 82-71 as Cory Donaldson scored 27, Mike Savory 15 and Cody Ross 14. Dylan Bailey had 18 and Travis Pearson 15 for the Titans.

        In the semis, the 2nd-seeded Berwick Central Kings Rural Gators nipped the Bridgewater Vikings 75-69 in overtime. Dustin Poirier paced the Gators with 30, including seven free throws in the extra session. Thomas Baltzer added 15. Bridgewater led 50-49 after three quarters, but the Gators, led by seven points from Baltzer, fought back to tie and actually had a chance to win in regulation time, only to have Poirier’s attempt come up short. King’s then won the overtime session 12-6 to earn a character win in what Gators’ head coach Stan MacVicar later told the King’s County Register was “the real provincial final.”

        In the other semi, the top-seeded New Waterford Breton EC Bears defeated the 4th-seeded Millwood Regional Knights 99-92.

        In the final, 2nd-seeded Berwick Central Kings Rural Gators defeated the top-seeded New Waterford Breton Education Centre Bears 70-51 as Dustin Poirier scored 23, nabbed 15 boards and dished 8 assists. Thomas Baltzer added 20 and James Nunn 13 After four consecutive runner-up finishes, the Gators finally won a title. Kings led 14-9, 30-26 and 51-34 at the quarters. Kyle MacDonald led the Bears with 18. Colin Larade added 12. Gators coach Stan MacVicar said the provincial banner, the first-ever for Central Kings in basketball, was “certainly worth waiting for. It was a pretty exciting day for everybody. Placing second is certainly nothing to be ashamed of, but finishing first is really special.” MacVicar also praised his seniors (Poirier, Shepherd, Matt and James Nunn, Austin Clem and Evan Ferris). These kids are the only ones who have gone to the final three years in a row.” MacVicar added that Baltzer played “probably the two best games of his life, back-to-back” Friday and Saturday, despite losing his grandmother, who was buried March 6. “We’re not the Buffalo Bills any longer,” MacVicar told the King’s County Register.
