In the quarterfinals, held in Wolfville, the top-seeded host Greenwich Horton Griffins stomped the 8th-seeded Sydney Mines Memorial Composite Marauders 98-59 as Jayda Veinot scored 24, Maia Timmons 21, Emily MacArthur 10 and Meghan Macleod 10. Karina Kuchta paced the Marauders with 25. Jenna Jessome added 11. The Marauders (coached by Loretta Campbell) also included Toni Bianchini, Maggie Bunbury, Emma Bunbury, Cameryn Evans, Taylor MacDonald, Breanna MacNeil, Marli McInnis and Megan Power.
The 5th-seeded Cole Harbour Cavaliers dumped the 4th-seeded Antigonish Dr. John Hugh Gillis Regional Royals 57-42 as Shyquida Downey scored 13, Kaisen MacKinnon 13 and June Beals 10. Brianna Gotschall paced the Royals with 15. Holly Scott added 11 and Brittany Connors 9. The Royals (coached by Gail MacDougall and Jennifer Grant) also included Kallie Ross, Gemma MacPherson, Sarah McCarron, Meghan Moran-MacDonald, Grace Weaver, Emma Cleary, Abbie MacIntosh, Jessie Weaver, Jasmin Desmond, Hanna Bance and Lilly MacFarlane.
The 6th-seeded New Glasgow North Nova Education Centre Gryphons stunned the 3rd-seeded Cole Harbour Auburn Drive Eagles 73-66 as Alyson Fulton scored 23, Shalena Ford 19 and Kendra MacKinnon 15. Chelsea Provo paced the Eagles with 18. Sarah Bentley added 16 and Shaelyn Brown 10. The Eagles also included Kendra Smith, Taylor Tollier, Alexis Sparks, Tyauna Goshee, Mateasha Beals, Keia Beals, Breana Williams, Angela Simmons and Maetiesha Smith.
In the last quarterfinal, the 2nd-seeded Halifax Citadel Phoenix dumped the 7th-seeded Bedford C.P. Allen Cheetahs 60-46 as Courtney Nordin scored 15, Daejiah Johnson 12 and Jasmine Cain 11. Alex MacLean paced the Cheetahs with 13. Lexi Boudreau added 10. The Cheetahs also included Beth Smith, Meg Ostling, Karen Bolivar, Chloe Oxner, Jessica Simm and Kimber Miller.
In the semis, the 2nd-seeded Halifax Citadel Phoenix crushed the 6th-seeded New Glasgow North Nova Education Centre Gryphons 77-45. Baelie Campbell paced the Phoenix with 14. Jasmine Cain added 12 and Daejiah Johnson 12. Kendra MacKinnon paced the Gryphons with 17. Jamie McCarron added 13, while star guard Alyson Fulton was sidelined for most of the affair by an injury.
In the other semi, the top-seeded Greenwich Horton Griffins dispatched the 5th-seeded Cole Harbour Cavaliers 74-63. The Griffins led 15-10, 39-30 and 57-44 at the quarters. Haley MacDonald paced the Griffins with 23. Maria Rodrigues added 16, Jayda Veinot 14, Maia Timmons 8 and Meghan MacLeod 8. Shyquida Downey paced the Cavaliers with 24. Kaisen MacKenna added 17.
In the bronze medal match, the 5th-seeded Cole Harbour Cavaliers nipped the 6th-seeded New Glasgow North Nova Education Centre Gryphons 67-65. The Cavaliers led 40-34 at the half but the Gryphons knotted the score at 60 before Cole Harbour pulled out the win. Shyquida Downey led the Cavaliers with 16. Nicole Wyatt added 15, June Beals 10 and Kaisen MacKinnon 10. Alyson Fulton paced the Gryphons with 26. Kendra MacKinnon added 17, Shalena Floyd 10 and Jamie McCarron 10. The Gryphons (coached by Andy MacKay) also included Danielle Farrell, Abbie Delaney, Katelyn Biron, Courtney Smit, Gabrielle Bailey, Madison McGuire, Natalie Addison, Regan Keay and Caitrin Skelton.
In the final, the 2nd-seeded Halifax Citadel Phoenix clipped the top-seeded Greenwich Horton Griffins 73-60 to capture their fourth consecutive provincial title. The Phoenix led 16-14 after one quarter. The Griffins led 40-23 at the half but the Phoenix stormed back in the second half, rallying to knot the score at 49 after three quarters. The Phoenix’ pressure defence continued to force Griffin turnovers as they pulled away down the stretch. Courtney Nordin paced the Phoenix with 23. Jasmine Cain added 16, Chelsea Slawter-Wright 13 and Daejiah Johnson 10. Jayda Veinot led the Griffins with 20. Haley MacDonald added 13 and Maia Timmons 13. Coach Nadeem Marson told the Halifax Chronicle-Herald that he instructed his troops at half-time that “we needed pressure on the ball baseline to baseline and we only needed to make up one point per minute to get the W. I said we got this, just play basketball, leave everything you have on the floor for the next 20 minutes and we can’t be stopped.” Marson added that Courtney Nordin “put the team on her back and carried them, Horton had no answer for her. … We lost 11 players from last year’s team and nobody thought we could do it again. We used it as motivation and worked hard every day.”
