It was a close game well into the third quarter when the Gryphons ramped up the defence. “We really picked up our intensity,” said Rivers. Kristy Moore scored 25 for the Warriors.

In the final, the Halifax Citadel Phoenix captured their second consecutive crown, in just the schools second year of operations, by defeating the top-seeded Greenwich Horton Griffins 68-59. “It’s pretty extravagant,” Darcy Zinck told the Halifax Chronicle-Herald of the back-to-back banners. “It’s not really something that you expect to accomplish.” Added captain Anna von Maltzahn: “There aren’t words. I’m speechless. It’s so emotional, we were all in there sobbing happy tears. This group of girls has come so far and I’m just really proud of everyone, every single person contributed whether they played or not.” Zinck led the Phoenix with 17 points, Anna von Maltzahn added 12 points, Carley Lewis 12, Liz Coolen 10 and Trish McNeil 10. “I thought that at times definitely (the execution) was lacking,” Horton coach Ian MacMillan said. “It was lacking on defence in the first half. There were times when we went stale on offence and then there were times that we went to the wrong place with the ball.” The Phoenix led 20-19 after one quarter. Citadel took a three-point lead into half time at 38-35, before a seesaw second half.
