In the quarterfinals, held in Truro, the 6th-seeded Antigonish Dr. John Hugh Gillis Royals stunned the 3rd-seeded Bridgewater Park View Education Centre Panthers 55-47 as Kristyn Stevens scored 15. Bellewyn Morris led Park View with 19. The Royals led 27-22 at the half.
The top-seeded Halifax Queen Elizabeth Lions defeated the 8th-seeded Glace Bay Panthers 63-40 as Carly Clarke scored 21 and Katherine Quackenbush 14. Angela McLean led Glace Bay with 14. Queen Elizabeth led 38-17 at the half.
The 5th-seeded Greenwich Horton Griffins dumped the host and 4th-seeded Truro Cobequid Educational Centre Cougars 62-53 as Vanessa Williams scored 16, Jennifer Bishop 12, Alicia Bird 10 and Tenaya Pinch 10. Sara Limpert topped the Cougars with 19. The Cougars (coached by Mike MacKay) also included Ashley McCarthy, Heather Stilwell, Leanna Hunt.
In the last quarterfinal, the 2nd-seeded Cape Breton Sydney Academy Wildcats clipped the 7th-seeded Coxheath Riverview Rural Royals 56-40. The Royals included Jennelle Robertson, Nicole MacIntosh.
In the semis, the Halifax Queen Elizabeth Lions defeated the Greenwich Horton Griffins 70-45 as Katherine Quackenbush scored 14, Carly Clarke 12, April Scott 11 and Heather Marshall 10. Alicia Bird and Vanessa Williams each scored 10 to pace the Griffins.
In the other semi, the 6th seeded Antigonish Dr. John Hugh Gillis Royals defeated the 2nd-seeded Sydney Academy Wildcats 55-40 as Beth Stephens scored 20 and Jillian Tozer 12. Heather Rudderham led the Wildcats with 12. Leah MacFadden added 11.
In the bronze medal match, the Sydney Academy Wildcats defeated the Greenwich Horton Griffins 75-63.
In the final, forward Carly Clarke scored 19 as the top-seeded Halifax Queen Elizabeth Lions captured their second straight title by stomping the Antigonish Dr. John Hugh Gillis Royals 67-41. April Scott added 12. Beth Stephens paced the Royals with 15. The Lions stormed to an early 13-2 lead and never looked back. “We had a great start,” Carly Clarke told the Halifax Daily News. “We were really pumped up and excited to be there. We wanted to get another (championship). One wasn’t enough.” The Lions led 32-18 at the half. “We knew they had a much-improved team from the last time we played them,” said Queen Elizabeth coach Stephen Stewart. “But our confidence was based on how well we were playing, not who we were playing. We were ready. The kids were very sharp.”
