In the quarterfinals, held in Coxheath, the 7th-seeded Halifax St. Patrick’s Fighting Irish stunned the 2nd-seeded Dartmouth Spartans 69-65 as Damien Cole scored 14 and Danny Williams 13. St. Patrick’s led 41-23 at the half. Steve Morse and Jayson Bundy each notched 17 for Dartmouth. “They were a much, looser, hungrier team and that was the difference,” Dartmouth coach Steve Jenkins told the Halifax Daily News.

The 5th-seeded Dartmouth Cole Harbour District Cavaliers whipped the 4th-seeded Annapolis Royal Annapolis West Education Centre Knights 93-73 as David Reynolds scored 31.

The 3rd-seeded Coxheath Riverview Rural Royals trumped the 6th-seeded Greenwich Horton Griffins 91-75 as Gregg MacDonald scored 34. “There was a lot of heat put on the kids to do well in this tournament,” Royals coach Bill Burns told the Daily News. “This is the big one to get out of the way.”

In the last quarterfinal, the top-seeded Bridgewater Park View Education Centre Panthers crushed the 8th-seeded Antigonish Dr. John Hugh Gillis Royals 99-57 as Adam Gladwin scored 44.

In the semis, the Bridgewater Park View Education Centre Panthers defeated the Dartmouth Cole Harbour District Cavaliers 78-61 as 6-9 centre Derrick Taylor scored 27 and Adam Gladwin 21. The Panthers led 36-29 at the half. ‘I knew Cole Harbour would come out and throw a few wrinkles at us,” said Park View coach Tom Thompson told the Halifax Daily News. “It was just a matter of how we reacted. The experience of our three big guys, Gladwin, Taylor and (Jeff) Mayo did it for us. We want the ball in their hands when the game is on the line. All we wanted was an invitation to the party.” David Reynolds led the Cavaliers with 19.

In the other semi, the host Coxheath Riverview Rural Royals bounced the Halifax St. Patrick’s Fighting Irish 90-80 as Kirk Mombourquette celebrated his birthday with 30 points, including six from beyond the arc. Greg MacDonald added 19. Kevin Keeler paced the Irish with 19. “Kirk gives us a big game every time out,” said Riverview coach Bill Burns. “He gives us nothing but 100 per cent.”

In the bronze medal match, the Halifax St. Patrick’s Fighting Irish clipped the Dartmouth Cole Harbour District Cavaliers 87-56 as Damien Cole scored 21. The Cavaliers (coached by Reg Bezanson, assisted by Kevin MacNeil, manager Ian Whynder) included David Reynolds, Jason James, Marcel Slaughter (Slawter?), Craig Sampson, Jermich Stairs, Nick Downey, Owen Cain, Troy Swan, Brent Stewart, Benson Thomas, Mike Tolliver and Kingsley Johnson.

In the final, the Bridgewater Park View Education Centre Panthers defeated the host Coxheath Riverview Rural Royals 89-63 to capture their second crown in three seasons as Adam Gladwin scored 29, while 6-9 centre Derrick Taylor and Jeff Mayo each tossed in 17. “We have worked hard all year and the fruits of our labour have certainly paid off,” said Panthers coach Tom Thompson told the Halifax Daily News. “The size and experience of our three big guys, Gladwin, Taylor and Mayo, proved to be the deciding factor. Greg MacDonald led Riverview with 25. Brian Boudreau added 17. “We never really got our game in gear,” said Royals coach Bill Burns. “That was partially because of the way Park View played us and partially because we were not ready to play.”
