In the semis, the Pasadena Academy Falcons edged the defending champion St. Brides Fatima Academy Royals 77-74.
In the other semi, the Trepassey Stella Maris Mystic dusted the St. Lawrence Academy Blues 58-40.
In the final, the Pasadena Academy Falcons nipped the Trepassey Stella Maris Mystic 69-66 as Mike Kennedy scored 15. William Kenny led the Mystic with 20. Falcons coach John Blake told the Corner Brook Western Star that his team showed character. “I think the fact they stepped up their game in the semifinal match to beat the team who was supposed to win this tournament was phenomenal. They showed a lot of character, a lot of drive and a lot of energy. They deserve every bit of what they got. … We had a lot of people step up at different times. When somebody wasn’t having a good game somebody else stepped up,” he said. “There’s a complement of six Grade 12s there who are graduating this year who kind of formed the basis of the team that were just exceptional with one or two of them always playing really well … but playing together as a team and their enthusiasm, drive and commitment to this goal was evident throughout the whole year and they just needed a bit of direction from the various coaches that they’ve been exposed to over the years.”
