In the semis, the St. Bride’s Fatima Royals whipped the Gander Collegiate Concordes 78-58. “We got down 12-1, but we fought hard to tie it at the half,” Concorde Jerry Jesseau told the Gander Beacon. “But we had some foul trouble and our defense began to suffer, we couldn’t stop them (Royals) from scoring in the paint, and we took some bad shots. David Collins was out with an injury, and he is great on the boards.” Collins, who’d suffered a hip injury in the third round-robin game, said “I came out in that game, and I was 50 per cent in the semifinal game. I gave 110 per cent of what I had, and I hurt myself again in the third period, and came out.” But Jesseau said he had to send Collins back in because the Royals were dominating the boards. Collins said “their smallest players were out-rebounding us, and I went in on adrenaline, we just weren’t boxing out. I did what I could but I went up and rolled on my ankle and hit my hip again. My body just wouldn’t go. We were in the game, and Jerry (Jesseau) was shooting out the lights, we played hard, we just had a bad fourth quarter.” Andrew Nolan said “we had way too many fouls, and our defense suffered because we were afraid to attack the ball. Fatima (Royals) knew this and they just chipped away at us.”

In the other semi, the Pasadena Academy Falcons edged the Chanel-Port aux Basques St. James Regional Saints 67-61.

In the final, the St. Bride’s Fatima Royals defeated the Pasadena Academy Falcons 87-77. “We do not have tryouts for any of our teams,” coach Jeff Ivany told the St. John’s Telegram. “We ask that the players commit to practicing and training.
