In the semis, the Placentia Laval Cavaliers defeated the Mobile Central Monarchs 56-53 as Judy Byrne scored 6 points in the last two minutes of play.

In the other semi, the defending champ St. John’s Holy Heart of Mary Highlanders defeated Corner Brook Regina Knights 52-50 as Jill Hutson hit two free throws with one second to play.

In the final, the Placentia Laval Cavaliers defeated the St. John’s Holy Heart of Mary Highlanders 72-53 to end a string of two consecutive runner-up finishes. Laval took a 43-27 lead at the break and then ran away with the easy 19-point win as Wilma Greene scored 16 and Judy Byrne 15. Susan Sparrow led Holy Heart with 12. Byrne noted that “the key to our success was that we played together. The last three years we were second and finally made it to number one.” Coach Br. Martin Cull noted that “we didn’t let down today. The team played the whole game as well as they could.”
