The Trepassey Stella Maris Mermaids emerged undefeated from a three-team double-round-robin. The Mermaids twice defeated the Corner Brook Herdman Huskies by counts of 34-30 and 49-27. Nita Sutton led Stella Maris with 15 points in the first match. Florence Pennell scored 13 and Mona Curtis notched 11 to pace Stella Maris in the second. Yvonne Warren led Herdman with 12 in the first match. Cheryl Butler pitched in 8 to lead Herdman in the second contest against Stella Maris.

        The Trepassey Stella Maris Mermaids defeated the St. John’s Holy Heart of Mary Highlanders 43-39 and 35-32. Florence Pennell led Stella Maris with 16 in the first match. Mona Curtis added 10. Florence Pennell pitched in 25 to lead Stella Maris in the second contest against Holy Heart of Mary. Colleen Tapper scored 11 and Cathy Abbott 10 to pace Holy Heart in the first match against Stella Maris. Cedi McCarthy and Winnie O’Grady each scored 10 in the contest against the eventual champs.

Holy Heart and the Corner Brook Herdman Huskies split their two matches in the battle to determine second place. In the first, Holy Heart defeated the Huskies 48-39 as Colleen Tapper scored 22 and Cathy Abbott 18. Marie Strong responded with 12 and Cheryl Butler 10 for Herdman. But in the second match between the two teams, Cheryl Butler scored 6 to lead Herdman past Holy Heart 24-23. Colleen Tapper responded with 7 for Holy Heart. St. John’s Holy Heart of Mary is awarded second place on the basis of superior points differential in games between the pair.
