In the semis, the Mount Pearl Huskies thumped the Corner Brook Herdman Huskies 95-67 as 6-4 point guard Mike Sooley scored 34 points. Peter Thurlow scored 13 for Herdman.
In the other semi, the St. John’s Brother Rice Celtics defeated the St. John’s Holy Heart of Mary Highlanders 94-84 as Leonard Halleran scored 25. Ken Turner scored 20 for Holy Heart.
In the final, the Mount Pearl Huskies stomped the St. John’s Brother Rice Celtics 85-67 as Shannon Miller scored 26. The Huskies led 44-32 at the half. Andy Fitzgerald hit 24 for Brother Rice. The Huskies won 105 consecutive games over three seasons. “We played in a lot of mainland tournaments and if you didn’t play defence there you were in a lot of trouble,” coach Gary Sooley decades later told the St. John’s Telegram. “But we were always in the mix. A lot of our players were on provincial teams.”
