In round-robin play, held in Corner Brook, the St. John’s Brother Rice Celtics finished (3-1), defeating Deer Lake Elwood 68-50, the St. John’s Booth Memorial Braves 103-53 and Stephenville St. Stephen 62-44, while losing to the Corner Brook Herdman Huskies.
In the semis, the St. John’s Brother Rice Celtics defeated the St. John’s Booth Memorial Braves 76-56 as Dave Ryan scored 14. Dave Benson led the Braves with 21.
In the other semi, the host Corner Brook Regina Knights toched their archrival Corner Brook Herdman Huskies 96-66 as Lou Rumboldt scored 24. Marshall Klevorik led the Huskies with 19.
In the bronze medal match, the St. John’s Booth Memorial Braves defeated the Corner Brook Herdman Huskies x-x.
In the final, the St. John’s Brother Rice Celtics defeated the Corner Brook Regina Knights 67-66. Regina took a 36-19 lead at the half, but Brother Rice ripped off a 23-8 run to open the second half and then held on for the one-point victory. Cleary Shea led Brother Rice with 21 points. Jim Morrissey added 14 and Steve Hayes 13. Wayne George led Regina with 25 points. Derek Byrne added 14 and Lou Rumboldt 10.
