In the quarterfinals, the St. John’s Holy Cross Crusaders defeated Grand Falls St. Michael’s 71-30 as Kevin Keating scored 13 and Maurice White 10. Jim Burke led St. Michael’s with 10. St. Michael’s also included Jim Moffett.
The Corner Brook Regina Knights clocked Carbonear United Church High 65-36 as Charlie Gallant scored 12, Jerome Davis 11 and Harry Hollett 10.
The St. John’s Bishops Barons dusted the Argentia Bristol Bulldogs 62-43 as John Pye scored 21, Dave Lane 14 and Jim Gay 12. Gerry Halamanda led the Bulldogs with 16. Dale Hall added 12.
In the last quarterfinal, the Goose Bay Seniors spanked the Goose Gay Juniors 81-59 as Nick Moore scored 18, Phil Navage 15 and Randy Ogden 12. Don Rutherford led the Juniors with 13. Jim Hardtke added 11 and Ed Gibbons 10. The Juniors also included Tom Ruthford.
In the semis, the St. John’s Holy Cross Crusaders thumped the Corner Brook Regina Knights 80-33 as Matt McCarthy came off the bench to score 14. Brian Kavanagh added 12, Bren O’Brien 10, Frank Scurry 10 and Wayne Holden 10. Charlie Gallant led the Knights with 15.
In the other semi, the Goose Bay Senior Varsity nipped the St. John’s Bishops Barons 70-69 after hitting two free throws off a technical in the final minute of play to score the winning points. Phil Navage led Goose Bay with 17. Randy Ogden added 16 and Nick Moore 15. Randy Wheeler hit 25 for Bishop’s, which led 35-30 at the half. Dave Lane added 17 and Larry Cheeseman 12.
In the bronze medal match, the St. John’s Bishops Barons clipped the Corner Brook Regina Knights 52-41 as Randy Wheeler scored 18 and Jim Gay 15. Charlie Gallant led the Knights with 17. Jerome Davis added 11. The Knights also included Harry Hollett.
In the final, the St. John’s Holy Cross Crusaders dumped the Goose Bay Senior Varsity 89-74. The Crusaders leapt ahead 16-3 to open the contest but Goose Bay clawed back to within one 17-16, before Holy Cross took a 49-42 lead at the half and pulled away in a foul plagued, tough defensive affair. Brian Kavanagh and Matt McCarthy fouled out for the Crusaders, while Phil Navage and Nick Moore fouled out for Goose Bay. Brian Kavanagh led Holy Cross with 19 points. Wayne Holden added 16, Brian Murphy 10 and Frank Scurry 10. Randy Ogden paced Goose Bay with 20. Phil Navage and Alan Myers each added 12.
