In the quarterfinals (provincial sectionals), the Moncton Bernice McNaughton Highlanders edged the Fredericton Leo Hayes Lions 60-58 after leading 32-27 at the half. Grace Wade led the Highlanders with 12. Maddy Hiscock added 11 and Meghan Foreman 10. Nicole Lafleur led the Lions with 19. Tori McCarty added 11 and Ellen Woodworth 10. The Lions also included Rhiann Coulombe, Morgan Macgregor.

The Riverview Royals dusted the Saint John Rothesay Regional Red Hawks 67-39 after leading 33-12 at the half. Vanessa Pickard paced the Royals with 26. Holly Jones and Emily Hatcher each added 7. Marissa Duguay and Hayley O’Brien each scored 8 to pace the Redhawks. The Redhawks (coached by Moira Gagnon) also included Jane Burchill, Chelsey Colette, Melanie Bishop, Kaitlin van Steeg, Kelly Marcolin.

The Fredericton Black Kats clipped the Moncton Harrison Trimble Trojans 62-52 after leading 27-22 at the half. Amy Appleby paced the Black Kats with 25. Emily Hazlett added 18. Kelly Vass led the Trojans with 26. Ebhlin Storey added 9. The Trojans also included Danielle Leblanc.

In the last quarterfinal, the Woodstock Thunder crushed the Moncton Ecole L’Odyssee Olympiennes 82-64. Samantha Wilson paced the Thunder with 26. Mackenzie McHatten added 19 and Deidre Alexander 12. Laurence Bourque paced the Olympiennes with 18. Julie Owen added 17 and Josee Jobin 10.

        In the semis, the Riverview Royals clocked the Moncton Bernice McNaughton Highlanders 63-49 after leading 30-23 at the half. Vanessa Pickard led the Royals with 25. Katie Lund added 14 and Katie Donahoe 11. Stephanie Kelly led the Highlanders with 18. Meghan Foreman added 10 and Alysha Bulman 9.

        In the other semi, the Woodstock Thunder dispatched the Fredericton Black Kats 70-54 after leading 27-23 at the half. The Thunder took command with a 29-14 third quarter. Samantha Wilson paced the Thunder with 26. Jillian McNally added 18 and Mackenzie McHatten 17. Emily Hazlett led the Black Kats with 12. Megan Houlding added 10 and Amy Appleby 10.

        In the final, the Riverview Royals defeated the Woodstock Thunder 71-48 after leading 21-9, 36-26 and 51-36 at the quarters. Vanessa Pickard paced the Royals with 23, 14 boards and 2 assists. Maddyson McDonald added 6 and Holly Jones 11. Samantha Wilson led the Thunder with 17. MacKenzie McHatten added 14. Vanessa Picard was chosen player of the game for the Royals, while MacKenzie McHatten earned the laurels for the Thunder. Vanessa Pickard told the New Brunswick Telegraph-Journal that “there really isn’t anything sweeter. There couldn’t have been a more perfect way to end my four years at Riverview High.” Woodstock coach Lisa Schmidt said “I just feel we didn’t do what we needed to do as a team,” Woodstock head coach Lisa Schmidt said. “We weren’t taking the shots we should have been taking and it affected everything.” Riverview finished the campaign 36-1. Coach Glen Gould said “it’s kind of a special group. The two seniors (Pickard and Donahue), I’ve had for four years and I actually coached them in minor ball before that, so it’s really kind of emotional to see them done at this point. … But every championship is special.”
