In the quarterfinals, the Moncton Harrison Trimble Trojans dumped the Saint John Greyhounds 73-54 as Porter scored 23 and Devereaux 12. Pauline Waggett led the Greyhounds with 11. Lindsay Church added 11. The Greyhounds included Bronwyn Kierstead.
The Fredericton Black Kats crushed the Moncton Bernice MacNaughton Highlanders 70-44 as Lisson scored 12 and Springer 11. Sarah Dupuis led the Highlanders with 13.
The Fredericton Leo Hayes Lions nipped the Riverview Royals 75-72 as M Corby scored 21, L Corby 19 and Hodgson 14. Johanna Bubar scored 19 to lead the Royals (coach Bill Davis). Alison Forbes added 18 and Carby Thibodeau 11.
In the last quarterfinal, the Moncton Purple Knights dispatched the Saint John St. Malachy’s Memorial Saints 64-45 as Chalk scored 17, Harwood 16 and G Donald 16. Elizabeth Marr led the Saints with 18.. The Saints also included Brandy Jones.
In the semis, the Fredericton Black Kats throttled the Moncton Harrison Trimble Trojans 54-30 as Kelsey Daley scored 13 and Katie Springer 12. Lydia Porter led the Trojans with 10. Sarah LeBlanc added 9.
In the other semi, the Moncton Purple Knights defeated the Fredericton Leo Hayes Lions 61-51 as Kelly Donald scored 18, Erin Chalk 13, Vanessa Ryan 9 and Katie Harwood 8. Meghan Corby paced the Lions with 15. Jessi Bradley added nine. Moncton High led 37-22 at halftime.
In the final, the Fredericton Black Kats defeated the Moncton Purple Knights 61-50 as Jill Brennan scored 10 and dished 7 assists, Devon Lisson 18, Kelsey Daley 14, Katie Springer 7 and Ashley Briggs 7. “We struggled with foul trouble early on and that carried on over,” Brennan told the New Brunswick Telegraph-Journal. “It was difficult but in the last five minutes we worked hard and we showed we wanted it.” Moncton eked out a two-point lead in the first half and was up 47-41 with 8:07 remaining when the FHS offence clicked into gear and their defence smothered the Knights, allowing only three points the rest of the way. Lisson said “it’s a privilege to be expected to win it every year.” Moncton coach Angie McKillop said “we had a little bit of a letdown defensively and a few of their threes went in. We had a hard time getting out on them and that was the difference in the game.” Chalk led the Purple Knights with 14. K Donald added 9 and Brittany MacDonald 8.
