In the final, the top-seeded Fredericton Black Kats defeated the 2nd-seeded Quispamsis Kennebecasis Valley Crusaders 59-46 as Gamble scored 15, Newman 10, player of the game Dickens 10, Rathbone 9, Rigby 9, Munn 4 and Crandlemire 2. The Black Kats captured their fifth consecutive title and avenged an early season loss to the Crusaders that had ended a 130-game winning streak. Black Kats coach Steve O’Rourke told the Saint John Telegraph-Journal that “I think this becomes especially satisfying because we didn’t have the talent the four years had. I think it was just plain old hard work. … Teams don’t quite respect us as much as they did in the past but I think today we gained a lot in that area.” Crusader Lynn Robertson told the New Brunswick Telegraph-Journal 16 years later that “I remember not realizing how big a deal this game was until we actually got to the Aitken Centre the morning of the game. I had never been in the Aitken Centre before and I was in total awe of the size of the gym, the chairs (instead of bleachers), etc. I guess in my mind, I had pictured a regular high school gymnasium.” Robertson led the Crusaders with 16. McCready added 12, J Johnston 6, D Johnston 5, Malcolm 2, Schmidt 2 and Brown 2. Crusaders coach Bill Ruddock said the Black Kats “really impro ved as the year’s gone along. I think this by far was their best game of the season. They hadn’t really shot well from the outside. So we backed our zone in but they shot well from the outside. That was the difference in the game.”
