Black Kats coach Greg Gould told the Saint John Telegraph-Journal that “I expected it to be a closer game that what it was. We pressed them defensively and tried to slow the game down a little offensively. We got a big jump on them early in the game (a 15-2 lead) and were up by 15 points at halftime. Then in the second half, we scored the first 5 of 10 baskets and then they cut our lead to about 13 points. But after that, we didn’t much trouble winning.” Gould told the Fredericton Daily Gleaner that “the key to beating Saint John was our zone press, both full-court and halfcourt. We kept pressure on them all the time and they kept turning the ball over to us. We were very deliberate on offence. Instead of a lot of running, we were taking it much slower. I think that helped us a lot.”
