In the quarterfinals, held in Oromocto, the top-seeded St. Stephen Spartans torched 8th-seeded Newcastle Miramichi Valley 70-24 as Hansen scored 27, Halford 22, McGeachy 9, Rice 6, Campbell 4 and Hall 2. Kim Moore led Miramichi Valley with 7. Leona Mitchell added 6, McEachern 4, McCallum 3, Sobey 2 and Menzies 2, while Vickers, Burns, Coster, Gates, Russell and Taylor were scoreless.

       The 2nd-seeded Fredericton Black Kats crushed the 7th-seeded Moncton Harrison Trimble Trojans 75-24 as Dean scored 19, MacKinnon 12, Fitch 10, Gillies 9, Henheffer 8, Watson 5, Scott 4, Keiver 4, Cull 2 and MacMullin 2. Patty Shephard led the Trojans with 8 (or 2, competing box scores. Lynn Tower added 7, Deb Kearns 5, Rothwell 2 and Judy Devereaux 2 (or 8), while Nan Wallace, Steeves, Yack, Surette, Dempsey, Buzzell, MacBeath and Broad were scoreless.

       The 4th-seeded Oromocto Blues clipped the 5th-seeded Riverview Royals 51-41 as Campbell score 24, Wood 12, Lindsay 9, Grierson 4 and Adshade 2. Janet Proude led the Royals with 19. Melanie Dobson added 10, Evelyn Sutton 4, Ruth Ratcliffe 4, Reid 2 and Margeson 2, while Mair, Nagle, LeBlanc and Hennessy were scoreless.

       In the last quarterfinal, the 3rd-seeded Monton Purple Knights clubbed the 6th-seeded Saint John Simonds Seabees 49-29 as Lavangie scored 13, McFarlane 12, MacDonald 10, Edgett 8 and O’Keefe 6. Jackie Shanks led the Seabees with 10. Walper added 5, McDormand 4, Irvine 4, Donna Crawford 4 and Collins 2, while Emmerson, Martin, Horgan, Barnett, Mcleneghan and McNamara were scoreless.

       In the semis, the top-seeded St. Stephen Spartans spanked the 4th-seeded Oromocto Blues 56-28 as Hansen scored 20, Halford 19, McGeachy 9, Rice 4 and Campbell 2. Wood the Blues with 11. Campbell added 10, Lindsay 4, Grierson 2 and Daley 1.

       In the other semi, the 2nd-seeded Fredericton Black Kats defeated the 3rd-seeded Moncton Purple Knights 43-34 as Dean scored 17, Gillies 9, Henheffer 6, Scott 3 and Watson 2, while six points were unallocated.

       In the bronze medal match, the 3rd-seeded Moncton Purple Knights dispatched the 4th-seeded Oromocto Blues 41-30 as O’Keefe scored 12, Lavangie 9, MacFarlane 8, Teed 7, Edgett 3 and MacDonald 2. Debbie Wood led the Blues with 10. Diana Lindsay added 10, Kathy Campbell 8 and Forbes 2, while Grierson, Adshade, Daley, MacIntosh, Quinn and Sommerton were scoreless.

In the final, the 2nd-seeded Fredericton Black Kats stymied the top-seeded St. Stephen Spartans’ bid for five straight titles when Sheree Fitch hit a free throw with 18 seconds left in the game to pull out a 47-46 upset. Cindy Dean led Fredericton with 17. Fitch added 8, Johnson 7, Henheffer 6, MacKinnon 4, Gillies 3 and Keiver 2. Dean told the Saint John Telegraph-Journal that “when we were behind there at the very last nobody going to give up – we were going to fight to the end. … And that’s what everybody did.” Black Kats coach Karen Lee said “our defence is about the best part of our game but we played good offence today, which we don’t always do. Everyone played well. It was a balanced effort offensively, defensively and individually … Everybody did just what they were supposed to do.” Halford led the Spartans with 17. Campbell added 11, Hansen 9, Rice 6 and McGeachy 3.
