The Kats won their 8th crown in 11 years. “We talked about playing great team defence all year and that was our focus in the pre-game talk, at halftime and the guys really bought in,” Black Kats coach Mike King told the New Brunswick Telegraph-Journal. “That was the focus for 40 minutes – play defence.” Alex Carty said “I feel so great, so happy.” Carty added that obtaining an 11-point lead at the half “just gave us the energy to keep on going and to score.” Crusader Ethan O’Neil said “they just came out running and kept going, I guess we ran out of energy eventually. Just have to keep working and try to come back next year.” Crusaders Nathan d’Entremont said “it’s a hard way to end your high school career, that’s for sure, it’s not the way I would have wanted to go out.” Crusaders coach Paul Vaughan said “you have to take care of the basketball. We turned it over, they were getting uncontested shots at the other end, it’s hard to come back from that.” The score was knotted at 22 when the Black Kats took command. “There’s not much you can do when someone gets hot, they just don’t miss,” O’Neil said. Vaughan said “once they get running, they’re a tough team to defend, they start spreading the form making their shots. They trapped our ball handlers, they took advantage of us.” Sawyer Eddy paced the Black Kats with 24 on 10-19 from the floor, 4-7 from the arc, 5 boards and 8 assists.
