In the quarterfinals, the Moncton Purple Knights defeated the Sussex Regional Sonics 61-50. The Sonics included Nick Huggard, Mitchell Folkins, Ryan Palmer, Jake Folkins, Brandon Carhart, Marcus Robinson, Brandon Moore, Malcolm Secord.
The Fredericton Black Kats whipped the Miramichi James M. Hill Tommies 83-48.
The Quispamsis Kennebecasis Valley Crusaders clubbed the Moncton Harrison Trimble Trojans 73-48. The Trojans included David Boulay, Sean Davis, Dan Maxwell, Tyler Pavlovic.
In the last quarterfinal, the Riverview Royals smacked the Fredericton Leo Hayes Lions 93-57 as Erik Nissen scored 22 and Mark Graham 15. The Lions (coached by John Hickey, assisted by Ryan Chase, Garth Wade and Jason Daniels) included Conor Erickson, Brett Brittany, Nathan Scott, Jared Stafford, Josh Whalen, Brady Long, Ben Cripps, Caleb Little, Mitch Claybourn, Kyle Dutcher and Jacob Eatmon.
In the semis, the Fredericton Black Kats dumped the Moncton Purple Knights 80-56 as Kyle Arsenault scored 22 and Alex Carty 15.
In the other semi, Quispamsis Kennebecasis Valley Crusaders clipped the Riverview Royals 73-66 as Erik Nissen scored 30 and Mark Graham 14. The Royals led 35-28 at the half.
In the final, the Fredericton Black Kats edged the Quispamsis Kennebecasis Valley Crusaders 79-73 after leading 20-15, 42-32 and 57-52 at the quarters. The Black Kats led by eight in the fourth quarter when Crusader James Davis nailed back-to-back treys to drew Kennebecasis Valley within 70-68. He added a bucket to give the Crusaders a 71-70 lead. But Andrew Petrie answered with a layup that gave the Black Kats a 75-73 lead. Zac Chambers missed a layup for the Crusaders and Wes Durling iced it for the Black Kats at the line. “That’s what I feel really bad about,” Davis told the New Brunswick Telegraph-Journal. “I’m crushed. We worked so hard to get here and to end like this, it feels pretty bad.” Crusaders coach Dennis Rollins said “there isn’t an ounce of quit in those boys. We just don’t quit. We just came up a little short. But you have to admire Fredericton. They think they’re going to win and they know how to win.” Black Kat Kyle Arsenault said the title was “a dream come true. I’ve wanted this since middle school. I’ve never had a feeling like this before.” Arsenault was chosen game MVP for the Black Kats while Chambers earned the laurels for the Crusaders. The Crusaders broke to an early 7-0 lead but an Alex Carty layup knotted the score at nine. The Black Kats took control from there and Bryn Davies and Durling scored one after another to give Fredericton a 16-11 lead near the three-minute mark. Chambers stopped the bleeding with a basket to make it 18-13. But the Crusaders couldn’t regain their scoring touch, finishing the stanza trailing the Black Kats 20-15. Erik Nissen dropped a pair of free throws to draw the Crusaders within 20-18. But Fredericton answered with an 8-0 run. Davis nailed a three to draw the Crusaders within 33-30 with two minutes to play in half. But the Black Kats rebuilt their lead to 42-32 at the break. Ryan Ramier’s back-to-back buckets, and a Chambers bucket, drew the Crusaders within 42-38, with about eight minutes to go. But Fredericton pushed back with two straight baskets to increase its lead to 46-38. Kyle Arsenault paced the Black Kats with 27 on 9-20 from the floor, 5-6 from the arc, 4-7 from the line, 8 boards and 2 assists. Andrew Petrie scored 16 on 5-19 from the floor, 1-3 from the arc, 5-10 from the line, 3 boards and 10 assists. Alex Carty added 15 on 7-15 from the floor, 0-1 from the arc, 1-5 from the line, 7 boards and 2 assists. Bryn Davies added 9 on 3-9 from the floor and 3-7 from the arc. Wes Durling scored 9 on 3-7 from the floor, 3-3 from the line, 8 boards and 4 assists. Val Nelson added 2, along with 5 boards and 2 assists, and Colin Girouard 1, along with 3 boards, while Tommy McGinn, Will Gange, Charbel Gerges, Craig MacMillan, Caleb Mazurkiewicz and James Connors were scoreless. The Black Kats hit 28-74 (.378) from the floor, 9-18 from the arc and 14-27 (.518) from the line, while garnering 56 boards, including 9 on the offensive glass, 13 turnovers, 6 steals, 22 assists and 20 fouls. James Davis paced the Crusaders with 14 on 5-10 from the floor and 4-8 from the arc. Erik Nissen added 13 on 5-16 from the floor, 3-4 from the line, 16 boards and 4 assists. Zac Chambers added 13 on 3-15 from the floor, 0-1 from the arc, 7-11 from the line, 13 boards and 8 assists.
