In the final, the top-seeded Fredericton Black Kats defeated the 3rd-seeded Monct0n Purple Knights 85-71 as player of the game Simmons scored 28, including six treys and 10-10 from the line, McNeilly 21, Dickinson 11, Stevenson 7, Krause 6, Larsen 4, Drapeau 2, McCoombs 2, McDougall 2 and Nair 2. The Black Kats led 38-33 at the half on a pair of late treys by Simmonds. “That got us started and got us on a bit of a roll,” Simmons told the Saint John Telegraph-Journal. “it really helped us. We went into the halftime with a good feeling, came back and carried it through to the end … If I can put them in, I’m going to keep shooting them. They kept going in. We won the provincials. I couldn’t be happier.” Simmonds told the Fredericton Daily Gleaner that “it wasn’t real easy. We had to work for this one. The score doesn’t give a true indication. I think it was a real tough game. Moncton played really well. We just played better.” Black Kats coach Gary Young told the Fredericton Daily Gleaner that “we played smart and we stayed in our game plan. We got an outstanding performance from Gord McNeilly at both ends of the floor. He held his man (provincial all-star Peter Nason) to not a basket and not a point from the foul line. … We felt we had a team that could score some baskets against them. Basically, they stood in a zone, they didn’t have a great deal of movement. I think we got the shots we wanted all night. To be honest, I think they’re darn lucky to have held us to 85 points. We had several easy layups that could have ended in easy baskets and we just had one of those fumble finger nights when nothing would go for u. So it could easily have been 105 points.  The Black Kats led by as many as 18. McNeilly was chosen the defensive player of the tournament.  McNeilly said “I’m really happy with that. That was my goal going into the game, to shut Nason Down and see what happened offensively. It was close for the first half but we just blew them away in the second half.” Rafferty led the Purple Knights with 22. McLeod added 19, Lennox 14, Bellemare 11, Noble 3 and Ogilvie 2. Purple Knights coach Randy Armstrong said “you’ve got to hand it to both of them (McNeilly and Simmons). To be hot on this floor, with those rims, takes some pretty good shooting. … We thought we had the defences that could hold them but it just didn’t happen.”
