In the quarterfinals, the top-seeded Sussex Sonics stomped the 8th-seeded Miramichi James M. Hill Tommies 102-49 as Ryan scored 22, Haley 16, Charters 15, Jeffrey 14, T Muscroft 8, M Muscroft 7, Costello 6 and Hughes 3. Robbie Lordon led the Tommies with 15. Jason Dixon (Dickson?) added 10, Jim Hannah 8, Jason McCarthy 5, Chris Carroll 4 and Jeff McTavish 2, while Brian O’Hearn was scoreless.
The 4th-seeded Quispamsis Kennebecasis Valley Crusaders dusted the 5th-seeded Saint John Greyhounds 74-56 as Herrington scored 24, Walker 24, Charlebois 11, Evans 9 and Scichilore 4. Rob Gimby led the Greyhounds with 15. Chris Dineen added 13, Tim Nickerson 10, Peter Huestis 8, Nitin Khanna 8 and Chris Young 2, while Rajesh Khanna was scoreless.
The 2nd-seeded Fredericton Black Kats mauled the 7th-seeded Oromocto Blues 77-51 as Kidney scored 21, Brown 13, Kenyon 12, Shaw 10, Hinds 9 and Johnson 8. Don Forsythe led the Blues with 14. Dave Pender added 11, Tony Bucci 9, Steve White 8, Colin Bush (Busch?) 7 and Eric LeClair 2, while Michael Leitch and Chris Goddard were scoreless.
In the last quarterfinal, the 6th-seeded Moncton Purple Knights edged the 3rd-seeded Moncton Harrison Trimble Trojans 68-66 as Lancaster scored 13, McCurdy 13, McKean 12, MacPherson 11, Noble 7, Rafferty 6, McLeod 4 and Blackmore 2. Tim Lawless (Wallace?) led the Trojans with 21. Neil LeBlanc added 12, Jamie Forsythe 8, Randy Mahoney 8, Darrick Weatherbee 7, Monte Steeves 6, John Rossengran 2 and Rob Miller 2, while Chris Leger and Tony Leger were scoreless.
In the semis, the top-seeded Sussex Sonics dispatched the 4th-seeded Quispamsis Kennebecasis Valley Crusaders 90-77 as Ryan scored 54, Charters 11, Philippe 8, Jeffrey 6, Haley 5, McGarrigle 4 and Carter 2. Walker led the Crusaders with 18. Charlebois added 18, Evans 18, Sicichilone 13, Watson 4, Herrington 2 and Fullerton 2.
In the other semi, the 2nd-seeded Fredericton Black Kats defeated the 6th-seeded Moncton Purple Knights 83-67 as Kidney scored 27, Hinds 18, Shaw 10, West 8, Flynn 8, Kenyon 6, Brown 4 and Johnson 2. Noble led the Purple Knights with 25. McPherson added 12, McKeen 11, McCurdy 10, Lancaster 6 and Lennox 1.
In the final, the 2nd-seeded Fredericton Black Kats defeated the top-seeded Sussex Sonics 75-68 as Kidney scored 23, Shaw 14, Brown 13, West 9, Kenyon 8, Flynn 4 and Hinds 4. Kidney knotted the score at 74 and then hit back-to-back buckets to five Fredericton a 70-64 lead before icing the win with a trey. Kidney told the Fredericton Daily Gleaner that “we outplayed them. We shut down their other guys and Darren Hinds di an outstanding job on John (Ryan).” Black Kats coach Gary Young said “we were not so concerned about keeping John Ryan under 40 points. We’re more concerned with a tight overall defence to contain their other guys. … Alex was incredible down the stretch but we had great games from the rest of the team too. We didn’t lose our composure and we used a well-balanced attack.” Ryan led the Sonics with 42. Charters added 12, Haley 8, Phillip 2, McGarrigle 2 and Jeffrey 2. The Sonics led 40-38 at the half. Sonics coach Peter McAleenan said “we won a lot of games this season in the final three minutes but it wasn’t to be this time. We were up by five or six points in the first half and we could have been up by 10 or 12. But we missed a lot of bunnies. It came back to haunt us. Hinds did a good defensive job on John and Kenyon and West, particularly, really hurt us coming off the bench.”
