In the quarterfinals, (with each held at the higher seed), the 2nd-seeded Moncton Harrison Trimble Trojans defeated the 7th-seeded Riverview Royals 65-57 as Lirette scored 20, Matthews 17, Steeves 8, McFadden 6, McKillop 6, Campbell 4 and Shane Steeves 4. Chris Steeves led the Royals with 17. Steve Beaumont added 11, Scott Balser 10, Steven Mclean 9, Paul Toner 8 and Steve McTavish 2.
The 3rd-seeded Oromocto Blues clipped the 6th-seeded Moncton Purple Knights 70-56 as McMorran scored 21, Grace 15, Fraser 10, Hindson 9, A Wood 4, P Wood 4, Desgroseilliers 4 and Garro 3. Pat Taylor led the Purple Knights with 12. Dave Daigle added 10, Tim O’Leary 8, Brian Agnew 8, Bob Daigle 7, Mike Abbott 6 and Terry Stulg 5.
The 4th-seeded Quispamsis Kennebecasis Valley Crusaders nipped the 5th-seeded Sussex Sonics 56-54 as Saville scoffed 16, Cook 13, Klassen 8, Armstrong 8, Messer 7 and Darling 4. Charlie MacQuarrie paced the Sonics with 14. Guil Roy added 12, Richard Amizial 9, Durck DeWinter 6, Ed Frazee 6, John Charters 3, Harold VenDemeerakke 2 and Jim Stewart 2.
In the last quarterfinal, the top-seeded Fredericton Black Kats stomped the 8th-seeded Bathurst Phantoms 93-34 as Read scored 38, Bouwer 16, Aams 15, Drover 6, VanWart 6, LeBlanc 5, Cashion 5, Campbell 4, Seagrave 4, Taylor 2 and Lockhart 2. Jim Golder paced the Phantoms with 12. Ted Branch added 9, Chris Fisher 6, Darren Sturgeon 2, Dale Coffin 2, Mike Thibodeau 2 and Gerry Rutledge 1.
In the semis, the top-seeded Fredericton Black Kats spanked the 4th-seeded Quispamsis Kennebecasis Valley Crusaders 78-52 as Read scored 32, Adams 14, VanWart 8, Bouwer 4, LeBlanc 4, Campbell 2, Taylor 2, Cashion 2 and Drover 2. Black Kats coach Rick Kotter told the Fredericton Daily Gleaner that “we probably ran the ball as well today as we have all year. We also got excellent play out of our backcourt, which, I think, has led us several times this year.” Klassen led the Crusaders with 15. Cook added 14, Darling 11, Armstrong 6, Messer 5 and Thompson 1.
In the other semi, the 2nd-seeded Moncton Harrison Trimble Trojans clubbed the 3rd-seeded Oromocto Blues 68-47 as Campbell scored 14, Shane Steeves 14, Scott Steeves 9, Matthews 9, Lirette 8, McKillop 6, Larocque 6 and McFadden 2. Fraser led the Blues with 14. Grace added 11, P Wood 9, McMorran 7, Hindson 4 and A Wood 2.
In the final, the top-seeded Fredericton Black Kats edged the 2nd-seeded Moncton Harrison Trimble Trojans 53-51 as Glenn Read stole the ball from Trojan Troy Matthews and raced for a layup as time expired. Read told the Fredericton Daily Gleaner that “we were playing it really tight and we were just hoping that they’d miss the shot or we get the rebound. I was lucky enough to steal the ball and I got what I was looking for.” Read that he wasn’t worried about fouling on the steal. “It was a chance I had to take. I thought I could do it and it paid off.” Read told the Saint John Telegraph-Journal that “it was kind of a fluke actually. I really didn’t think it was going to go in.” Black Kats coach Rick Kotter said “we have been up and down all year and we knew that Harrison Trimble was going to be tough. We’ve been down before at halftime (a 27-21 deficit) and won but this one was extremely tough to come back.” Read led the Black Kats with 19. Adams added 17, Bouwer 13 and VanWart 4. The Black Kats hit 9-12 from the line. Matthews led the Trojans with 21. Shane Steeves added 10, McKillop 8, Scott Steeves 6, Campbell 4 and Lirette 2. The Trojans hit 11-18 from the line.
