Black Kats co-coach Rick Cotter told the Fredericton Daily Gleaner that “you’ve got to have a real good combination of outside shooting and inside shooting to break that zone. We got a bit from David Stamples. We didn’t get anything inside in the first half. David went a little cold for a while and we didn’t have anyone to pick up the slack. Against a team like that, especially when they’re playing zone, you’ve got have more than one player putting the ball in the basket persistently and we just didn’t have that tonight.” Black Kats co-coach Greg Gould added that “I think th efface that they were a little bigger than us probably helped them in the sense that we had a hard time rebounding offensively. Defensively, I think you can overcome the height advantage with a good job of blocking out. We did a pretty job on our defensive boards, particularly in the second half.”

In the other semi, the Saint John Greyhounds defeated the Miramichi James M. Hill Tommies 80-62 as Scott scored 24, Currie 19, James 15, Ferris 14 and Nowlan 8. The Greyhounds led 37-31 at the half. Greyhounds coach David McPherson told the Fredericton Daily Gleaner that “I thought we took an awful long time to settle down. We did what we wanted to do (in the first half), holdm them to 31 points. The surprise wasn’t that we have up 31 points, the surprise to us was that we only scored 37 because basically, we had more much diverse scoring power. It took us about 32 minutes to put the game on ice. Once we settled down, the offence came and we did well.”

In the bronze medal match, the 5th-seeded Fredericton Black Kats defeated the 7th-seeded Miramichi James M. Crusader Mike Armstrong told the Fredericton Daily Gleaner that “it’s unbelievable, that’s all you can say.” Teammate John Miller said “this the first time all year we had been down at the half. I dind’t really think we had enough to come back but I’m quite pleased with the way things turned out. We really hoped that we could come back but I think deep in our hearts, some us didn’t think we were going to. We hoped to. But I think there was a lot of doubt there.” Crusaders coach Ted Corby said “it was just a matter of saying ‘hey, we’re still in this. Just go out and play your hardest and things will turn around.’ We didn’t get too many breaks in the first half. Nobody had given up hope. It was just a few fellows got made that they weren’t playing well and that made the difference in the game.” James led the Greyhounds with 22.
