In the quarterfinals, held in Fredericton the 5th-seeded Miramichi James M. Hill Tommies nipped the 4th-seeded Saint John Simonds Seabees 82-80 as King scored 29, Kerr 18, Macdonald 13, Philpott 7, Pointe 7, Rainsborough 4 and H Williston 4. Greg Stewart paced the Seabees with 30. Kevin Beyea added 16, J Murphy 12 C Skinner 6, A Crowell 6, J MacDonald 2, D Wilkes 2 and J Fury 1, while P Collings and W Cormier were scoreless.

       The top-seeded Fredericton Black Kats spanked the 8th-seeded Moncton Harrison Trimble Trojans 93-49 as McCormack scored 23, Gourley 19, Florean 13, Duvall 11, Rideout 9, Grant 6, Howlett 6, Little 2, Lake 2 and Cunnane 2. Greg McNally led the Trojans with 14. Allan Abasss added 11, Greg Campbell 7, Karim Hashmi 4, J Hanson (Hasson?) 4, D West 3, Steve Sewell 2, P Colohan 2 and L Wartman 2, while Steve Sewell, Keith Pellerin and Brad MacDonald were scoreless.

       The 2nd-seeded Saint John Greyhounds dusted the 7th-seeded Oromocto Blues 10-9-52 as Putnam scored 29, Mcleod 21, Fox 21, Crilly 16, Aves 8, Nowlan 2 and Ferris 2. Bob Whynot led the Blues with 14. John Horseman added 13, M Vincent 6, B Williams 6, D Wilson 5, F Poirier 4, S Horseman 2 and I MacDonald 2, while B Hays, M Kilbridge, R Darran and I Poirier were scoreless.

       In the last quarterfinal, the 3rd-seeded Moncton Purple Knights whipped the 6th-seeded Quispamsis Kennebecasis Valley Crusaders 67-49 as Shea scored 21, S Lebans 20, Toogood 11, Logan 8, G Lebans 6 and Reade 2. Greg Thorne led the Crusaders with 16. Chris Magee added 16, G Pierce 6, Bruce Haines 5, B Haines 4 and G Marley 2, while C Magee, R Mitler, Mayberry, R Henry, R Donohue and R Nowlan were scoreless.

In the semis, the Fredericton Black Kats defeated the Miramichi James M. Hill Tommies 102-41 as McCormack scored 24, Florean 15, J Howlett 13, Duvall 13, Rideout 8, Lake 8, Gourley 4, Cunnane 4, M Howlett 4, Taylor 4 and Grant 2. Kerr led the Tommies with 10. Philipott added 8, Butler 8, M Williston 6, King 4, Nori 2 and Swan 1.

       In the other semi, the Saint John Greyhounds whipped the Moncton Purple Knights 86-72 as Putnam scored 32, Fox 18, Nowland 12, Macleod 8, McGinnis 7, Crilly 6, Ferguson 2 and Aves 2. Shea led the Purple Knights with 24. G Lebans added 13, S Lebans 10, Toogood 8, Logan 6, Donahue 5 and P Lebans 4.

       In the bronze medal match, the 5th-seeded Miramichi James M. Hill Tommies defeated the 3rd-seeded Moncton Purple Knights 84-76 as Macdonald scored 15, King 13, Kerr 12, Rainsborough 9, H Williston 9, Noel 8, Pointe 6 and Butler 2. The Tommies hit 21-14 from the line and led 48-41 at the half. The Purple Knights hit 28-41 from the line. Victor Shea led the Purple Knights with 36. Robbie Toogood added 10, Geoff Lebans 8, Dave Logan 6, M Reade 4, Steve Lebans 3 and B Garland 2. The Purple Knights also included P Donahue, P Lebans.

In the final, tournament MVP Don McCormick scored 27 as the top-seeded Fredericton Black Kats defeated the 2nd-seeded Saint John High Greyhounds 89-71. “The key to winning,” McCormack said, “is momentum. And today we had it.” He’d averaged 25 ppg through the tourney. The Kats also got 21 from Florean, 19 from 6-3 point guard. Howlett added 10, Duval 8 and Rideout 4. Black Kats Rick Cotter said defensive guard Greg Rideout “played the best game of his high school career.” Chris Fox led the Greyhounds with 18. Putnam added 16, McGinnis 9, Aves 8, Macleod 7, Crilley 6 and Nowlan 6.
