In the quarterfinals, held in Fredericton, the top-seeded Fredericton Black Kats stomped the 8th-seeded Dalhousie Condors 74-22 as MacCormack scored 16, Fagan 13, MacPherson 9, Rosborough 9, Slipp 7, Clark 5, Scott 4, Young 4, Keeling 3, Jardine 2 and Dobbelsteyn 2. Murchie paced the Condors with 7. Claude Viennau added 6, Flan 6, Dwyer 2 and Brian Brown 1, while LeBlanc, Munn, Glencross, MacPherson, Pelletier, P Brown, Welsh, Thompson and Webb were scoreless.
The 2nd-seeded Saint John St. Malachy’s Memorial Saints dispatched the 7th-seeded Moncton Harrison Trimble Trojans 42-33 as Drummond scored 12, Bass 10, Coyle 9, Barry 5, Doiron 2, Murphy 2 and Whelan 2. Keith Steeves led the Trojans with 18. Dan Killam added 4, Macleod 4, Bruce Jamieson 4 and Rodney Higgins 3, while Mcnally, Al McPhee, Dave Forbes, Dan Duquette, Nicholas, Eric Fullerton, Charuk and Dave Garhardt were scoreless.
The 6th-seeded Saint John Vocational Vultures stunned the 3rd-seeded Sackville Tantramar Titans 58-45 as Dixon scored 20, Little 13, Rourke 10, Eatmon 4 and Sullivan 2. Jim Faulkner led the Titans with 15. Al Withers added 10, Frank Kingston 10, Mike Lannigan 6, Hirtle 2 and Allen 2, while Sears, Robichaud, Barclay, Estabrooks and Sparks were scoreless.
In the last quarterfinal, the 5th-seeded Moncton Purple Knights defeated the 4th-seeded Rothesay Regional Red Hawks 45-35 as Bohan scored 17, Surrette 12, Kelly 7, Galbraith 4, Fougere 3 and McNeil 2. Paul Martin led the Red Hawks with 10. Ron Robinson added 9, Wilson 6, Messer 3, Hart 3, Gerry Connolly 2 and Doull 2, while Lutes, Hughes, Brisbois and Buckley were scoreless.
In the semis, the top-seeded Fredericton Black Kats whipped the 5th-seeded Moncton Purple Knights 57-31 as Fagan scored 19, Slipp 10, Jardine 8, Young 7, Keeling 6, Scott 4 and MacPherson 3. McNeil led the Purple Knights with 17. Fougere added 7, Galbraith 4 and Surrette 3.
In the other semi, the 6th-seeded Saint John Vocational Vultures dispatched the 2nd-seeded Saint John St. Malachy’s Memorial Saints 47-37 as Rourke scored 13, Dixon 13, Little 50, Eatmon 6 and Garnett 5. Coyle led the Saints with 14. Doiron added 8, Bass 7, Murphy 4, Barry 2 and Whelan 2.
In the bronze medal match, the 2nd-seeded Saint John St. Malachy’s Memorial Saints nipped the 5th-seeded Moncton Purple Eagles 49-46 as Drummond scored 15, Bass 15, Coyle 11, Whelan 6 and Doiron 5. Fred Surette led the Purple Knights with 16. Carey Bohan added 13, Gary Kelly 10, Fougere 6 and Paul McNeil 1, while Galbraith, Jackson, Hicks, J Kelly and Wallace were scoreless.
In the final, the top-seeded Fredericton Black Kats repeated as champs by whipping the 6th-seeded Saint John Vocational Vultures 68-24 as Fagan scored 20, Young 16, Jadine 8, MacPherson 6, MacCormack 6, Slipp 4, Scott 3, Keeling 3 and Graye 2. The win capped a boys/girls double for the Black Kats, who led 32-10 at the half. Black Kats coach Rick Cotter told the Fredericton Daily Gleaner that “offensively and defensively, they played a really good game. We got the best ball game Gary Young has played his entire career. Bob Fagan played offensive and defensive rebounded – you just can’t write enough about Robert – He’s a tremendous player. … Ian MacPherson and Paul Jardine did much to hold Dixon – kept him to 4-19 in the first half and they held Eatman to 6. It was team defensive effort – we had a lot of team spirit.” Dixon led the Vultures with 10. Eatman added 6, Rourke 3, Little 2, Garnett 2 and Matheson 1.
