In the quarterfinals, held in Fredericton, the Edmundston Cormier Cougars dispatched the Minto Memorial Tigers 61-54 as Daigle scored 19, Voisine 15, Labrie 12, Harding 6, Collins 5 and Ritchie 2. Gerald Leger paced the Tigers with 20. Brian Bailey added 13, Johnston 8, Thompson 7, Sullivan 4 and Barton 2, while Nightingale, Robichaud, Gallagher and Courser were scoreless.
The Fredericton Black Kats dusted Chatham St. Thomas Academy 84-39 as Fairweather scored 27, Morgan 24, Haggerman 9, D Mackenzie 2, Petrie 4, Adams 4, M Brown 4, M McKenzie 2 and B Brown 2. Mel (Dave?) Brine paced St. Thomas with 16. Nelson Solomon added 10, Lannen 5, Shannon 2 and Carey 2, while four points were unallocated and Denny, Coulton, Gerry O’Reilly; Cyril Polchis and Violette were scoreless.
The Saint John Simonds Seabees whipped the Moncton Purple Knights 86-27 as Smith scored 21, Oliver 16, O’Blenis 8, Lawrence 7, G Messer 7, Forgey 5, Flemming 4, B Messer 2, Beers 2 and Taylor 2. Ed Fudge led the Purple Knights (coach Bill MacDougall) with 10. Roger Robart added 8, Ralph McKay 4 and William Agnew 2, while Joel Freeman, Fred Ritchie, Ian McLure, Bob Taylor, Richard Rice, Keith Robart, Ken Magee and Don Dalzell were scoreless.
In the last quarterfinal, the St. Stephen Spartans stomped Bathurst Sacred Heart 72-37 as Halstead scored 18, McHugh 16, Pierce 14, Kelly 8, McKnight 6 and Glass 5. Pete (Don?) Samson led Sacred Heart with 21. O’Connell added 6, Chiasson 5, Kane 3 and Assoff 2, while Colwell, Ferguson and Melanson were scoreless.
In the semis, the Fredericton Black Kats edged the Edmunston Cormier Cougars 53-51 as Fairweather scored 29, Morgan 16, M Brown 4, M MacKenzie 3 and Gorman 1. Collin led the Cougars with 15. Voisine added 15, Daigle 12, Labrie 5 and Harding 4.
In the other semi, the Saint John Simonds Seabees defeated the St. Stephen Spartans 44-40 as G Messer scored 21, Smith 11. Oliver 8 and Forgey 1, while one point was unallocated. McHugh led the Spartans with 14. Pierce added 9, Kelly 8, Halstead 7 and Manuel 2.
In the final, the Fredericton Black Kats defeated the Saint John Simonds Seabees 52-40 as Fairweather scored 26, Morgan 14, Gorham 6, M Brown 4 and Petrie 2. Smith led the Seabees with 17. Forgey added 9, G Messer 6, Oliver 4, Flemming 3 and R Messer 1.
