In the final, the top-seeded Petitcodiac Regional Panthers defeated the 2nd-seeded Harvey Lakers 66-59 as player of the game Harper scored 20, K Bannister 18, Keith 12, Berry 12 and Morton 4. After Laker Embleton fouled out with 4:14 to play, the Panthers went on a 12-0 run. Harper told the Saint John Telegraph-Journal “that won it for us. He’s their big scorer and when he went out, we picked it up a notch. …. We all chipped in a little bit because we knew Sheldon (Alward, who did not play because he suffered a back injury when he jumped off a roof onto a snowbank three weeks before the tournament) was out and he’s a big part of our team. WE all got a couple of more boards and scored a few more baskets and it all came together.” Panthers coach Ron Hooper said “this one was especially satisfying. Probably our best player – Sheldon Alward – couldn’t play in the regionals or the final. But we had hole to dig and some of the other kids came up big.” Embleton led the Lakers with 18. Thompson added 18, Harrison 12, Fitzgerald 4, Pierce 4 and Sprott 3.
