In the final, the top-seeded Petitcodiac Regional Panthers defeated 3rd-seeded St. George Eastern Charlotte Regional 56-52. Trailing by 15 with 11 minutes to play, the Panthers shifted to a full-court press and created havoc. “We waved our press and didn’t use it against them,” during three regular season games, all of which Petitcodiac won, said coach Ron Hooper. “We felt that they were the team we would meet in the final and we didn’t want them to be prepared for our press. When we put it on, it turned the game around.” Hooper told the Saint John Telegraph-Journal that the “zone press changed the tempo of the game. We’ve been a running team all season long. So Eastern Charlotte slowed the game down right from the start. I thought our bench strength was the deciding factor in the whole tournament. St. George played a strong defensive game and we just weren’t penetrating in the first half.” Bannister led the Panthers with 16, Kaye added 12, Keith 10, Harvey 8, Chowan 6 and MacPherson 4. Petitcodiac Regional finished (43-1, alternately reported as 42-1) on the campaign. Vautour paced Eastern Charlotte with 18. Harris added 18, Cook 8, Bradford 6 and Hooper 2.
