In the final, the Bristol Carleton North Stars defeated the Woodstock Wildcats 46-45. Stars player of the game Laura McIntosh hit a pair from the line to make it 45-45 with 16.6 seconds left. Then, after Woodstock’s Amy Andow missed a pair, Patricia Blackie bounced in a final free throw with 1.9 seconds left to give the Stars the win. “I don’t even remember hearing the people in the stands. It was just me and the net,” Blackie told the New Brunswick Telegraph-Journal. “My foul shots are horrible but I made them when they counted.” Teammate Jillian Sipprell added that “she shoots like 2-for-10 in practice, but I knew she would make one. I knew she wanted it so bad that it would go in.” McIntosh said she was nervous shooting her free throws. “You’ve got to make this. I was kind of scared. I had the bunny and I knew I could make it and then I got fouled. Going to the line was crazy.” Blackie led the Stars with 10. McIntosh added 8 points and 13 rebounds, while Kerrin Everett scored 9 and dished three assists, and Casey Gaunce 5. Andow was chosen player of the game for Woodstock after scoring 18 on 7-11 from the line and 8 boards. Bethany McFarlane added 9, along with 7 boards, and Heather Atherton 7 on 1-15 from the floor and 4-12 from the line. Both teams shot less than 30% from the field. Fouls were the story as the teams slowed the pace by combining for 50 fouls. Jessica Irvine’s trey attempt at the buzzer was blocked by Casey Gaunce. Woodstock hit just 3-16 from the arc. “A majority of their points come from the three-point line,” said Jillian Sipprell. “We had to shut that down.” Laura McIntosh added that “defence was a big key. We held them from their three- pointers and that was a big difference.”
