In the quarterfinals, the 2nd-seeded St. Stephen Spartans dusted the 7th-seeded Salisbury JMA Armstrong Cougars 74-27 as Hanley scored 14, Anderson 12, Barnes 12, Nicholson 11, Bedford 6, Matthews 6, Casey 3, McGinley 3, Robichaud 2, Goodine 2 and Allen 2. Susan Maclear led the Cougars with 6. Gwen Collie added 5, Kerree Tait 5, Lisa Cockeane 4, Tina Tattersol 4 and Kelly Ball 4.
The 3rd-seeded Sackville Tantramar Titans clipped the 6th-seeded Lawrenceville-Bristol Carleton North Stars 55-42 as Trenholm scored 14, L Cole 11, G Wall 11, Perry 9, Bowser 7 and Allen 3. Maria Kilfoil led the Stars with 22. Heather Wheeler added 8, Joanne Foster 6, Teresa Kierstead 2, Tina Guthrie 2 and Hazel Duncan 2, while Karla Kennedy and Andrea Kilfoil were scoreless.
The top-seeded Woodstock Wildcats clubbed the 8th-seeded Campbellton Sugarloaf Bruins 83-51 as Hughes scored 22, Beattie 12, Brown 10, McGann 6, Wright 6, Hall 6, Doherty 6, Milbury 5, Cluff 4, Veysey 4 and MacMullin 2. Joanne Mcdonald led the Bruins with 13. Debbie Firth added 10, Kelly Hoyt 10, Sara Murray 6, Louise Bernard 6, Candice Mettalic 4 and Stacey McPae 2.
In the last quarterfinal, the 5th-seeded Perth-Andover Southern Victoria Vikings spanked the 4th-seeded Fredericton ‘AA’ Black Kats 73-51. The Black Kats included Carol Knockwood, Kathy Slipp, Jennifer Hogan, Kari Chase, Sara Thompson, Krista Fleiger and Angela MacFarlane.
In the semis, the top-seeded Woodstock Wildcats dispatched the 5th-seeded Perth-Andover Southern Victoria Vikettes 66-50 as Brown scored 25, Wright 15, Milbury 11, Hughes 11, McGann 2 and McMillan 2. Palmer led the Vikettes with 19. Eifler added 9, Plante 9, Jackson 6 and McRae 4.
In the other semi, the 3rd-seeded Sackville Tantramar Titans defeated the 2nd-seeded St. Stephen Spartans 46-41 as Trenholm scored 14, Wall 12, Bowser 7, Perry 5, Ward 2, Wheaton 2, K Cole 2 and L Cole 2. Allen led the Spartans with 12. Anderson added 8, Hanley 8, Nicholson 4, Matthews 4, Barnes 3 and Casey 2.
In the final, the top-seeded Woodstock Wildcats nipped the 3rd-seeded Sackville Tantramar Titans 61-59 as Lori Beattie hit a 10-footer jumper with seven seconds to play. Beattie led the Wildcats with 23. Brown added 21, Wright 7, Milbury 4 and McGann 4. Beattie told the Saint John Telegraph-Journal that “it was going to go in in. … I just had to do it. It was the only way we were going to win so I shot and it went it. It felt great.” Wildcats coach David Daye said “I’ve never gone into a provincial championship confident. Sure we had beaten them earlier but if we had taken a confident attitude, we would’ve lost. The girls worked very hard to get this game.” The win capped a girls/boys AA double for Woodstock. Trenholm led the Titans with 22. Perry added 18, Wall 9, Wheaton 6 and Cole 4.
