In the quarterfinals, held in Woodstock, the 5th-seeded Riverview Royalettes nipped the 4th-seeded St. Stephen Spartans 55-54 as Horton scored 18, J Smith 14, Betts 14, McLaughlin 7 and Bryenton 4. Betty MacWilliams led the Spartans with 22. Debbie Madsen added 18, Anita Smith 12, N Madsen 8, Janis Downey 3 and Giddens 3, while Atkinson, Downey, Giddens and S Madsen were scoreless.
The 3rd-seeded Woodstock Wildcats dispatched the 6th-seeded Bathurst Phantoms 55-46 as McKellar scored 21, Sanders 19, Cluff 9, Currie 3 and R McBride 2. Fellow led the Phantoms with 19. Grebenc added 11, Debbie Perron 7, Ann Maher 4 and Marie Clair Hachey 3, while Stathart, Doucet, Marquin, Daves and Hinton were scoreless.
The 2nd-seeded Saint John Whippets clubbed the 7th-seeded Saint John St. Vincent’s Fighting Irish 49-25 as L Maxwell scored 10, Cogswell 10, Cameron 8, Allen 5, Dickens 4, Colwell 4, A Maxwell 3, Sinstadt 3 and Donovan 2. Berry led the Fighting Irish with 15. Arsenault added 7, Gagnon 2 and Adams 1, while Higgins, McNaulty and Megarity were scoreless.
In the last quarterfinal, the top-seeded Quispamsis Kennebecasis Valley Crusaders annihilated the 8th-seeded Sackville Tantramar Titans 111-18 as Ashley scored 24, Gormley 18, Lutes 12, Leonard 10, MacDonald 10, McCormick 10, J Barry 6, McGowan 6, Pierce 5, R Barry 4, P Barry 4 and Flewelling 2. Shelly Johnson led the Titans with 8. Carson added 4, Straight 2, Richard 2, Motyer 1 and Fisher 1, while Cutting was scoreless.
In the semis, the top-seeded Quispamsis Kennebecasis Valley Crusaders clubbed the 5th-seeded Riverview Royalettes 66-38 as Ashley scored 23, McCormick 13, MacDonald 10, Gormley 6, R Barry 6, Pierce 4, J Barry 2 and Lutes 2. Betts led the Royalettes with 12. Horton added 8, Bryeton 4, McDougall 4, Smith 2, Mills 2 and LeBlanc 2.
In the other semi, the 3rd-seeded Woodstock Wildcats defeated the 2nd-seeded Saint John Whippets 66-61 as Sanders scored 28, McKellar 15, K McBride 12, Cluff 9 and Furrow 2. Cogswell led the Whippets with 22. Cameron added 14, L Maxwell 10, A Maxwell 9, Dickens 4 and Allen 2.
In the bronze medal match, the 2nd-seeded Saint John Whippets clipped the 5th-seeded Riverview Royalettes 60-45 as Cogswell scored 19, A Maxwell 13, Colwell 9, Cameron 7, L Maxwell 6 and Allen 6. Mary Horton scored 12 to pace the Royalettes. Susan Betts added 12, Janet Smith 8, Judy Bryenton 6 and Ann McLaughlin 6. The Royalettes (coach Mary Campbell, assisted by Colleen Collier, Lyn Dainard and Laurie Dunbar, manager Connie Mrazek) also included Norma Crossman, Jane Edgett, Sonja Hendriks, Theresa LeBlanc, Barb Mann, Bev McCarthy, Nancy Mills, Wendy Mugridge, Lori Reid and Bernadette Smith.
In the final, the top-seeded Quispamsis Kennebecasis Valley Crusaders defeated the host and 3rd-seeded Woodstock Wildcats 69-65 as R Barry scored 18, Ashley 16, Gormley 10, McDonald 7, Lutes 6, Pierce 4, J Barry 2, P Barry 2 and McCormick 1. Coach Pauline McHugh said depth proved the difference, telling the Saint John Telegraph-Journal that “it was a matter of having a good, long, strong bench.” Laura Sanders led Woodstock with 40. K McBride added 8, Furrow 7, Cluff 6 and McKellar 2.
