In the final, the Woodstock Thunder dispatched the Bristol Carleton North Stars 58-50. Brothers Keegan and Hunter Gray, along with their cousin Ben Gray, combined for 41 points to lead the Thunder to the title. “Coming in here, I said we can’t rely on the three-point shot, so that tells you what I know,” Woodstock coach Scott Jones told the New Brunswick Telegraph-Journal. “That is literally the exact opposite of what I said we wanted to do. We wanted to go inside and Colby (Lawrence) got into foul trouble. It’s funny how it works, but guys just stepped up and made shots. … We can talk about baskets and I know it’s important, but if we hold a team to 50 points, we’re going to win. Every shot that they took, we challenged. If we can force teams into shooting the ball with four or five seconds left on the shot clock, or less than that, that’s what we have to do. We worked our guts out (defensively). I hardly subbed.” Alex Walton nailed a trey at the buzzer as the Stars took a 14-10 lead after the first quarter. But Keegan Gray nailed a trey to ignite a 9-0 Woodstock run. “It’s the kind of gym where if you start to get into a rhythm, then you’re in it for a while,” Ben Gray said. “If you don’t get into a rhythm, it can be difficult. We made sure we knocked down some shots early and it paid off later.” Kruz Bell drained a trey to pull the Stars within five late in the second quarter but Gray hit two free throws that gave the Thunder a 31-24 lead at the half. The Thunder led 46-37 after three quarters. “I’ve played basketball for 10 years and this is by far the best feeling I’ve ever had,” Gray said. “The rivalry has always been there and it probably always will be. It’s been there since my dad (Tim) was there. It’ll be there for a long time to come.” Oliver Ebbett said “they seemed to want it more than us in this game. If we would have boxed out, got the loose balls and made more shots, we might have come out on top.” Ben Gray paced the Thunder with 23 on 8-14 from the floor, 4-6 from the arc, 3-4 from the line, 7 boards and 4 assists.
