In the final, the Woodstock Thunder (formerly the Warriors) defeated the Grand Manan Breakers 75-72. Brothers Jacob and Lance Taylor combined for more than half the Thunder’s points. Lance scored 34 on 14/21 from the floor, 6/9 from the arc, 8 steals and 5 assists. Jacob scored and collected a critical steal to protect a 74-72 lead with 15 seconds left. “I stole it from Colton (Wilson) and just thought hopefully we could pull it out for those last 15 seconds. They were like two hours but it’s so fun now,” Jacob told the New Brunswick Telegraph-Journal. “But you really want to talk to that guy over there,” he added, pointing to his brother. Lance’s teammates chanted “M-V-P, M-V-P” as he accepted his player of the game award. Every time Grand Manan threatened, he hit a key shot to take the momentum back. His best moment came with six minutes left after Duncan Cronk had put the Breakers ahead 60-59, their first lead of the game. Taylor marched down the floor and coolly sank a three-pointer to grab the lead back and then came up with a quick steal and potted the lay-up to put the Thunder up by four, a lead they never relinquished. “It’s a real honour to win your last game. To finish on a winning note is just great,” said Taylor. Justin Poliquin added 13, Sheldon Dow 9 and Southwest Conference AA player of the year Shelby Nicholson 6, along with 8 boards. Kyle Roode was named Grand Manan’s player of the game after scoring 30 on 14-18 from the field, 2-3 from the line and 14 boards. Colton Wilson added 17 points and 14 boards, 5 assists and 2 blocks. Duncan Cronk scored 11, nabbed 7 boards and dished 6 assists. “It was a hard-fought game,” said Roode. “The last game of your high school career is hard to lose, but I’d rather go out in a close game like that than get blown out. It would be better if we’d won, but we tried our hardest. It was a good battle and they came out on top.”
